When I fitted the Sifab rad to my Plus 4, I asked that question, and Simon said the standard fan was fine. The new rad makes it run much cooler.
For a Plus 8, its a judgement call. They run hotter for obvious reasons, but the new radiator will make a difference.

I would go standard. On my roadster it hardly kicks in

I have decided to go the whole hog - Mulfab aluminium radiator and heavy duty fan kit, in the UK we seem to be experiencing higher temperatures and we have plans to go around Europe, so it'll be better to be prepared. Being from Yorkshire it's not easy to part with more money than necessary, however it should be a long term benefit! Thanks everyone for your advice.

Good decision fitting the heavy duty fan. Sunday stuck entering Dartford Tunnel with engine running needed the heavy duty fan and even that was struggling to keep the car under 100C. (I have an oil cooler as well and that was at 90C).
