Artificial stupidity, perhaps?

In 2018 I had the honner to take part in a docunetary about AI.
I learned quite a lot as there were much brighter minds than me as experts.

If you are interested and if you would like to get a 90 minutes introduction I highly recommend "Machine" directed by Justin Krook.

Toby Walsh (Professor in the field of AI at the Unversity of South Wales) said this was the first AI documentary he would not feel like he should throw a pillow to the screen.

As a fool with a tool is still a fool, we should fear fools with AI.
It happens and it is very dangerous....

Thanks for the link - will take a look! I did hear once of a definition of AI that was "something that can be quickly be proved to be not very intelligent". Generative AI / large language models will no doubt provide a good step forward for knowledge dissemination, equivalent to the change we had with internet search engines aka Google, Bing, etc. I reckon we should have a thread on here on AI-created Morgan-related images... "create an image of a Morgan car in the style of a Plus Four but with modern aerodynamics and an EV architecture and 3 wheels ..."

Bright minds tinker.

Business release these things into the wild in aim of making money.

Just because we can doesn't mean we should.

While 99% can be harmless it's that other % that can get out of control, it's spotting that in the first place that is tricky.

Maybe John Conner has already come back from the future to warn us, but unfortunately he materialised down a mineshaft or the middle of an ocean or desert? :Wink:

I like the idea but would prefer the 4/4 wheel basic shape to be preserved - a marriage of the Mercedes exposed exhaust pipes showing with nice fat stainless going down through the wing.

And by way of a P.S. and an AI issue. Would AI be better or worse than Boris Johnson at lying through its teeth. I personally feel such a prune at having enjoyed the antics of a comedian cross dressing as a polititian. With today's report on Johnson about to reveal all, there will be many red faces ashamed at having been seduced.

I wonder what social. economic, philosophical and political leanings the AI will have, will they all be advocating eg neutral gender , WOKE espousing? Will they have capitalists or communist leanings subject to where they are designed, developed and the database of material they are exposed to.........could the Chinese potential dominance of the AI market create and influence future generations towards an autocratic communist world dominance by conditioning their audience with selective material?

The question is.......can AI lie?

If it's a true representation of artificial intelligence, then yes of course it will lie.

Don't be tricked into thinking that they will adhere to Asimov's three rules of robotics.

DaveW ... interesting avenue ... I guess it depends just how 'human' they become ... you might imagine that, as a coldly intellectual 'being', it would have no reason to be anything other than entirely truthful, as it wouldn't have the ego imperatives to.protect (and the overwhelming number of Human lies are minor and to protect our self-view/social-standing) ... it wouldn't give a toss about that. However if it became Human-like it might also pick that baggage up along the way.

More worrying would be an AI that had been 'brought up' with a deliberately skewed input or with it's access to information rigorously controlled (think Einstein raised by a radical cult.) It would follow the only way it knew.

Similarly, without empathy or a moral framework with a broad knowledge base then lies would be seen as just another tool to acheive its alloted task and positively useful..

My worry is powerful synthetic intellects moulded by imperfect Humans at best ... and deliberate bad-actors at worst.
