Number 42 was stripped out to dry (again!) following the discovery of the flooding caused by a broken water main a couple of weeks ago on the road south of Wallingford. I was on my way to see an old biker friend at the H Cafe. I ended up with 2” of water swilling around in the car and I was drenched, although I dried out quickly in the slipstream and hot sun. It was the deepest water I’ve ever been through, the car actually began to float tail up and the back wheel kept loosing traction and spinning! I just wish there had been someone there with a camera!

How deep was the water? Must have been very deep in a hollow in the road!
Try eating more chips to increase your “ballast”.

To be honest, I don’t know how deep. I was on the crown of the road, the water was trapped between two grass verges. Spray was coming from the front, over the bonnet and from the front wheels. The length of flooded road about 100 yards with loss of traction on and off for maybe 20 yards. This is the second time Ive hit deep water with no warning. The first thing that happens is a massive splash rises up in front of the car 8-10 feet high which you then drive into and it it all comes down into the cockpit. The other thing you notice is that every little turn of the steering wheel sprays water in your face from one direction or the other. Because of this, progress through the water is necessarily slow.
At least all the abrasive dust left over from the Gogs and Gaunts Kielder Forest track run was washed out of all the nooks and crannies !

Crikey Jim that must have been some adventure going through that amount of water! As you say shame no one caught the moment on camera, sounds spectacular.

Will be a good test of Phil's anticorrosion measures! Presume you have the chain conversion?

I recall taking a Discovery Mk1 down a flooded road (water coming through the door seals, bow wave etc) and thanking the stars it was a lease car. Coincidentally a few weeks later the engine siezed (replaced under warranty) but I always wondered if something got wet that shouldnt have... .

i have drilled holes in the floorboards to get rid of the rain water. That would prevent your floating as it would let water in
