I have a crack on passenger side top on my windscreen. I have two questions - approximately how much is this going to cost to replace?
Secondly I do t remember it happening whilst I was driving so does anyone know if putting the roof up can cause this?
Thank you in advance
Greg

Jeepers £1,500 for a windscreen- looks like an insurance job then. Can’t remember getting hit by a stone - can tbe roof mechanism cause windscreens to split?

There was a spate of 4/4 Sports back in the day with cracked windscreens which often happened overnight. The screen isn't well supported to take tension either from the hood or from passengers using the frame to lift their weight out of the cockpit. Having said that, there hasn't been many instances lately of cracked screens. It's very important though that passengers don't use the screen as a leverage point.
At least the tension from the hood isn't pulling horizontally backwards, it's more of a vertical pull around the hood pivots.

It's £1500 because the heated 'screen is now only supplied compete with it's chrome frame from MMC, which dealers have to order, however the bonus is that it's easy and quick to fit Yes, it has been known for a very tight hood mechanism to 'twist' the screen and tends to show as a diagonal crack top left or right Hope you didn't go with a cheap insurer as some now have an upper limit on 'screen claims

That just sounds like bad luck, my insurance with LV I pay £150 to replace the windscreen with no effect on NCD so probably the way to go.

Seems like a wasteful and unnecessarily expensive way of replacing a piece of flat glass. If Morgan follow their usual pattern the surrounds won't be available in a few years anyway and someone will then have to come up with an alternative.

I had to replace my pitted 20 yr windscreen. The heater element had given up years ago. Not having the £1500 in my pocket, and not wishing to spend that much on something that is likely to fail in a few years(the heater element), I stripped mine down and took the sheet of glass to my local glaziers, who cut me one for £38, so I bought two😁 A few hours later, clear screen, and since I didnt benefit from the heated element aspect previously, I just continue with the shammy and open the windows as before.

Yes, I sort of agree, but I think MMC now buy then in as a sub-assembly and I doubt many owners would want the hassle if the insurer will pay anyway and the maker of just the heated glass OE part won't supply individuals I've done at least 2 'screens the old fashioned way & replaced the glass myself, it's a bit of a pain and can be quite time consuming if the old rubber seals are perished, new ones are exceedingly tight in the U channel and mixed with sharp glass can lead to some choice words and several plasters, that reminds me the old F Type screen has cracked again (and it doesn't even have a hood) perhaps body flex ?
