A fond memory from when BS5750 was introduced to my employer.
We had a training session from a "consultant" who made the point that B5750 had NOTHING to do with quality, but everything to do with reproducibility. He made this point by showing a film clip, featuring, I think, John Cleese.
The actor was sitting at his desk. The phone ring and the actor started a timer. After 30 second he picked up the phone and aid "Fu** Off, then put the phone down. The Consultant said that BS 5750 was all about procedure and if that response was in your Quality Manual you would be audited on following the procedure, as you went out of business....

Roll on 15 years or so to ISO 17025...all about a journey of "Continuous Improvement" with annual audits by a 3rd party.
For my sins I was part of a team that wrote ISO 17034... describing the process for the production of Certified Reference Materials, essential for validating the competence of an ISO 17025 Accredited Testing facility.
ISO 17025 will ensure that you go out of business because of the cost of Compliance....not because your procedures are rubbish.

All the standards require the application of experience and common sense if they are to be of value to an enterprise.
Blind adherence to process will kill your business as well as B 5750.....

I remember the UK BS5750 /ISO 9000 training films.. I am sure you are right that it was John Cleese, he was the star in most of the short film clips, they did make me smile.. Sadly I was tasked in bringing ISO 9000 into our exploration company following auditor training and what a pigs job it was.. never again..

I think there is little difference as to real quality issues experienced between manufacturers, especially when you take issues like the infrequency in the use of the vehicle like a Morgan. Very often winter long hibernation in many cases, such lengthy periods of inactivity do not help maintaining components in optimum operating environments. The cars are brought out when the sun shines often pushed into service on lengthy holiday trips, and then surprise surprise something not working properly when woken up from a deep slumber.

Many of the Morgans I've inspected when searching for a car had patchy service history, often no annual service etc. Then people wonder why components fail when pressed into a period of regular use following long periods of inactivity. Very few cars would be reliable if subjected to the Morgan type of limited mileage and occasional use, many often experience.

I believe this is the over seer (whatever that is).
I understood it was something that was applicable to auto’s but this light came on my manual Plus Four on the way home from the dealership the day I collected the car. The advice was to turn the car off for a few minutes and hopefully the warning light would go out, until the dealer could get a part from MMC to fix it.

There are two sides to QA and accreditation.
Firstly you might want the accreditation for its own sake, to say you have it.
Secondly you want QA that actually works well for you. Yo7 can have this without accreditation. I think Toyota did that as they believed their QA was better than the BS5750 and its successors.
The Standards in themselves are not a guarantee of quality or further improvement processes. Good QA involves setting out processes and procedures that
a) reduce and prevent failures.
b) improve control of processes/procedures to enable further improvement
c) reduce costs of failures
d) increase reputation that brings in orders.
e) improves the culture in thecompany.

ISO 17025 Accreditation is a journey of perpetual improvement, if done properly.
Every SOP reviewed annually, revised if a quality issue is detected and the root cause analysis identifies a way to prevent the problem from occurring again.
ISO 17025 is audited by UKAS, which doesn't take prisoners.
Most ISO 17025 accreditation is undertaken because customers demand it, not because management wants it!
