The skills are there, the customer base is there. Some kind of revenue/profit split with the Factory to allow use of the frames, jigs etc. Maybe not call it a Morgan anymore, just the +4 or some such. There are some great partners in the community who can do some real development work to move things on as well. Morgan Park, SSL suspension, AVO shocks etc....
That would be smart, but like Land Rover refusing to sell the old Land Rover jigs to Ineos, its likely the business folks would see a separate trad business as too much competition. And, to be perfectly honest, who would want a sliding pillar suspension in 2023 even for a bespoke trad? Personally I would go for an Arial Nomad (but am happy to still get wet in the rain!) wink

I know of a number who would purchase a new trad with say double wishbone front suspension and a 5 link rear built by an offshoot of the factory, or an RTCC -Williams -Melvyn type of operation , yes some are current owners but none would consider a new CX at the current price point.

Isn’t the answer to that just a basic CX chassis car without any fancy electrics / turbos etc like a caterham running gear
, the return of the 4/4

They lost i understood 12 million over cx warranty issues and with no USA market opening up things must be looking tough..

The cx is a fine car but the mmc quality makes it vastly overpriced IMHO. The upside is the low 2nd hand prices .

I wonder if they will survive venture capital tends to ditch loss makers quickly

There are several factors that will effect the payback of any investment in the start up of a trad production line. Euro7 comes into effect from 2030 for car manufacturers of less than 10k cars a year and the current UK ban on the sale of diesel and petrol cars from 2030.

If the UK remains the dominate market for trads and some foreign markets like the USA require ABS etc and may therefore become standard fit, there's not much opportunity to make a reasonable return on the setup cost that would be involved.

For me a slightly strengthened trad chassis with double wishbone front suspension and 5 link rear suspension, with say Ford mechanicals would be an ideal solution. Keep it simple.

My worry would be the future source of spares ! Already Aero owners are struggling to find replacement parts.
There is an Aero owner in this months Miscellany his car has been off the road since May.
He need a replacement electric window winder.
No dealer have any in stock and he cannot get a response from the factory.

Surely this is not Morgan specific, take it to a decent parts supplier they will probably have them on the shelf.

If they announced a limited run of 100 trads. With say a 2.3 Duratec with around 200bhp. Narrow track, light and simple, they would probably sell the lot.

I'm not sure overcomplicating the suspension is worthwhile. It may not even be possible for type approval. The sticking point might be the rear axle, but Caterham still use a live rear???

Obviously price point is the issue. £40k would be amazing but £55k is more likely. It will never happen, but I would certainly look seriously at such a spec.

It would be nice to have the Morgan equivalent of the Caterham - no frills, no airbags, and a reasonable price!
