I still have issues with EV battery weight! The Tesla is actually light, as EVs go, but at 1919kg it is still a heavy thing. My Co Pilot's AMG C43 weighs 1610kg. I take your point, but EVs ARE getting lighter. The current Tesla Model 3 4WD Long Range is 1847kg and the 2WD version 1735kg - not a huge amount more than the AMG C43. I expect the next gen Model 3 (Project Highland) will be even lighter. Schlepping 600kg of dead weight round with you is NOT Green, sorry. It is a waste of energy. Depends somewhat on where the energy comes from. Mine comes mainly from the sun in summer and cheap overnight wind during winter. Where do fossil fuels come from?

Solid state batteries are a step forward, probably a big one.
But they still need charging and my view is that outside the urban/suburban areas it will be another 5 years before fast chargers are everywhere.
Hydrogen is going to be a player, especially for white vans and larger.
Synthetic gasoline will be available for toy cars and their petrolheads.
Diversity is the name of the game, actually anything that does not involve fossil carbon! Diversity is good.

As to my comment that dragging dead weight is not being green, I was thinking more about engineering elegance and efficiency, rather than the source of the energy. Colin Chapman would be appalled by the weight of EVs...one of the reasons I like the Porsche 718 is the engineering elegance, BUT i accept it is costly to service because the ultra compact power plant makes many "simple" jobs complex. But a 2 to 3 tonne vehicle cannot be a lithe, fun thing..the Boxster S is a big, luxurious go cart... point, squirt and panic....

They want momently everyone to buy a EV and a heat pump. The dc sources are no issue because it comes out of the plug. Mostly French nuclear power, which Germany does not want to produce, or Polish power from lignite-fired power plants. No one knows how to store our random wind power. Our Minister of Economics is a miracle of technical competence, because he has written children's books all his life.
