Not sure if I´ve overlooked any previous infos on this, but anyway an update on this: OSRAM, producer of light solutions, has now legalized its LED light bulp also for the classic 7" headlights. The certification (also for other UK-made cars with the same headlamps) is, important for German TUEV as one of the toughest hurdles, officially certified for Morgans 4/4, Plus4, Roadster and Plus8.The bulp has the exact measures and sockets like the H4 halogen bulbs, and you just need to exchange the bulp, no other changes to cabling. socket, recflector or glass. It does not change the outer appearance of the headlights, beside you might notice a little darker reflector when the light is off. The light is reportedly 2.25 times brighter than H4, which I can confirm based on several night drives I´ve had during past trips to the alps. Interesting: in hot conditions, you might notice a sound when ignition is on - coming from small ventilators of the bulb to cool down (amazing what OSRAM put in this small part). I also like the difference of the cooler LED light and the warm-white parking light bulb, which makes the headlights an interesting view. OSRAM is regularly updating the compatibility list for its LED-H4, and official certificates from various countries have been issued accordingly. Let me know if you want copies.

Despite TUEV certification only a revision in current UK law will allow them to be legally used here on 1986 onwards cars as a retro fit into "classic 7 inch" headlamps designed for halogen bulbs.

Sadly true Richard. As you know I had them in Belle & they work really well but the MOT rules meant a move to sealed LED units.

There is an age relaxation in the UK .... legal if older than a certain year ( 1986?? 1976?? ... Both ring a bell in the back of my head ... though I do know my '75 is ok) .... google search should bring it up.

That’s a pity - have read about limit but hoped that now that OSRAM added Morgan to the compatibility list not limited to any county (and independently from TUEV certificate, which of course only covers Germany) would / might mean a change for UK. For Morgan owners in other countries it‘s still worth a check.

However, this may be related to the fact that all Trad Morgans are called 4/4 within the COC?

I have looked at the Osram site and none of the bulbs are road legal - or have I missed something? Can you tell us the H4 product and or serial number please?
