I have a flat 13" (actually a little less) Motolita on my car and have no issues with switches. Maybe something you need to get used to. To change the length would be a considerable undertaking even if there was a shorter one available.

Good point Richard, and I have been living with the present setup for several years, but I have removed all spacers from behind the wheel, so it sits closer to the dashboard and arms, giving me more arm room and a straighter arm driving position. It is OK, but would be so much better if they were shorter than the rim.
