Apologies if this has been covered under another thread..

I am contemplating upgrading my indicators to LED (I know not strictly legal!) however I feel the rear indicators (hazards) need a boost to stand some chance of being seen if stuck on a smart motorway breakdown!!

The car has a standard relay set up (not part of PCB panel as later cars). I am advised that ballistic resistors are required to allow relay to flash correctly but has anyone tried any fancy LED (382 P21W) bulbs?? I am surprised there are not integrate bulbs with resistors integrated by now.

I have LED indicators with resistors built in. I got them from these guys who I am sure could help.

Not sure why you think they are illegal Keith. I had the CANBUS friendly ones with integral resistors mentioned by John above. Since then I changed the front indicators to switchback LED's giving white sidelights switching to flashing amber. No MOT issues.The bulb holders have to be changed to the twin contact stop/tail type though.

Keith. It is the headlight bulbs that are an MOT failure

I'm tempted to put mine in for it's next test with the LED bulbs fitted just to see if they notice, it's daft because the old Mini with exactly the same setup IS allowed

That makes a lot of sense Richard.

For those of us stuck with halogen bulbs (unless we convert to LED specific reflectors and bulbs) that gives an extra illumination at the front end, and I think many of us would regard that as a very good thing.

Thanks Andy it does give an extra measure of confidence when white van man is on the horizon.

Just to bring the thread to a close - I contacted Clasic Car LED and they supplied a replacement Flasher/Indicator relay (mounted in the relay/fuse box box in the engine bay of my car) and 4 x Amber LED 382 Bulbs. Simple plug and play and I also changed rear brake/tail to Red LED 380 bulbs to complete the set!

I have found a vey good youtube contributor who works in the industry and has some excellent reviews and guides.
