Yep, I've said many times, Tesla has certainly got it right with the range and infrastructure.

However, it's a bit of a rich mans toy. Down here in the budget section we only have available cars with a small range and a lousy charging network. A 10yr old Nissan Leaf with a 60mile range is not an attractive proposition.

The Golf is an excellent car, and with the ehybrid we get the best of both worlds. I don't enjoy driving it though, but that is a reflection on my driving pleasure rather than a reflection of the car itself.. Far too many whistles and bells - I prefer a much more analogue experience, and enjoy getting down and dirty with my vehicles - full brake and suspension overhaul on the MG today. smile

Same as a Morgan.

The average new car cost in the UK is £39k - new EV's start at £22k with many (200 + mile range) below the average cost. Lots of very low mileage Tesla's in the £30k range too with new ones around £41k.

Any new car could therefore be called a 'rich mans toy'.

More thans 7 years experience with EV's, first Tesla Model S 85D and since 2 years BMW iX3. Homecharging available at 11 kW. Range 350-450 km depending on temperature and speed. Also managed nearly 500 km. As a petrolhead I also must admit that I like electric driving. Infrastructure in The Netherlands is good already for years and improving. Last week we had a holiday trip to the Loire, 750 km distance. French autoroutes have remarkably improved their charging facilities, and also at other places you see many chargers. We managed 350 km range with 130 km/h, fully packed, 4 adults and 2 bikes on the rack. Had 2 charging stops wihich we combined with some eating, drinking and stretching the legs. Our gite where we stayed had a charging point too! So no stress.

Bit of a statistical manipulation here. £39k is the average cost of an suv, not all available cars.Average hatchback 21k
The 39k figure includes the EVs !
£22k EV can only buy you a smartcar with a range of 70 miles. An equivalent ice is perhaps a vauxhall at less than 12k.
Though prices are rocketing up thanks to those EVs

Loving the EV charger in the remote outback campsite. Better infrastructure than most of urbanised UK!

Note: it is a PHEV, not an EV, so can run on petrol....
According to the brochure on the makers website it has an electric only range of 28 miles from its 13.8kwh battery.

From the brochure it looks good, 0-60 is 10.6 seconds so not exactly a sports SUV. But it makes a lot more sense than an all electric SUV.

It would have to be. Most EV's wouldn't have the range to get to the campsite in the first place........ smile
