Good morning the collective mind.
Today my beloved Morgan +4 does not want to start. It's a 2018 GDI
Put the key in, imobiliser light stops flashing, fuel pump runs & I wait until it stops, key to start position the engine turns over but does not fire up.

I have so far tried the following
Change the engine/immobiliser relay & then the fuel system relay
Check fuses, also tried swapping fuses 12 Coils/crank position sensor for a spare and then fuse 9 ECU Ign

Tried disconnecting the battery for a minute and then reconnecting

So far no luck

Is there a spark at the plugs? if not it could be the crank sensor, or even a cam sensor?
For sure if there is no CPS signal there will be no spark.

If you don't want to take a plug out connect a strobe light up to test for spark.

I've had a crank sensor fail, although mine failed intermitantly while driving.
Cheers
John.
Edit also check the CPS connection and wires.

Have a word with BHM Tim.

A few years ago BHM had a GDI which wouldn't start and it took all their skills to get it to fire. I don't recall the details but I do know that it took a lot of churning before it fired and then it was OK. Keith Jackson told me about it at the time.

Thanks for your suggestion, using a timing light I have checked for and have a spark on each cylinder
Took one plug out it seems dry, which considering the number of attempts to crank to me is wrong.

I'm also not sure about the immobiliser, the flashing light goes out when I insert the key - tick
But if I leave the key in it stays out, whereas I'm sure that after about 20secs it is supposed to start flashing again

Interesting, I spoke to Brett @ BHM this morning, he was mistified as the only problem they usually have is the key not communicating - something I know you have written extensivly about.
But as inserting the key stops the flashing light that doesnt seem to be the problem.

However I'm not sure about the immobiliser, the flashing light goes out when I insert the key - tick

I'd give Cain at Wolf Performance a call , with the GDI engines in the racing club sports we've had a number of diffciult to find issues the most common is the the throttle bodies.

He should be able to give you some help in identifying the problem.

As I recall, the immobiliser light has a different flash sequence if you leave the key in but don't start the engine.

Try leaving the battery disconnected overnight, and also make sure it's fully charged, there may be a voltage sensitive issue going on.

Tim,
If there's a spark then it's fuel. You say the electric pump is working, but is the fuel getting to the HP pump? There is a sensor on or near the HP pump, how are those connections?
Do you have the "torque" app, but Im not sure if you can see the fuel pressure on it?

I've also heard stories about these strange failure to start problems but the fixes have been just bizzar!
Cheers
John.
