Met Cain yesterday and he mentioned about sticking throttle bodies on GDI engines. I can confirm the OBD Torque Pro app working with ELM327 bluetooth dongle will display both pedal and throttle position and would therefore show any issue there.

Worth noting that my Roadster which runs fine, displays max 80% for pedal position with corresponding ECU limited max of 75% on throttle. Apparently this is not unusual as the extra makes little difference.

But as inserting the key stops the flashing light that doesnt seem to be the problem.

However I'm not sure about the immobiliser, the flashing light goes out when I insert the key - tick
But if I leave the key in it stays out, whereas I'm sure that after about 20secs it is supposed to start flashing again

As I recall, the immobiliser light has a different flash sequence if you leave the key in but don't start the engine.

Try leaving the battery disconnected overnight, and also make sure it's fully charged, there may be a voltage sensitive issue going on.

I'm with Dave on the ECU seeing low volts, especially if you've been cranking a 'dead engine' several times

Hi Tim
I had a similar problem on my 2014 +4 GDI last year.
I did all the usual checks - fuel pump running then shut off, sparks OK, engine breathing OK - then gave up and had the car recovered to Tim Ayres at New Elms. They did further checks on sensors etc - all OK.
The final diagnosis was that the fuel pump was running but not delivering sufficient pressure.
New fuel pump fitted - all OK

Back in 2018 my GDI would not start - I found the cylinder head of GDI has a secondary earthing wire fixed to the rear of the head low down just above the join with the main block on the left hand side (passenger side in UK). Photo from the rear left hand side of engine shows the wire (pinky red, running vertically upward) bolted via a ring connector to the head. Not a good photo but best I could get as access is poor and flash bounces off all sorts.

When my GDI would not start (engine turned, petrol pump worked etc) this bolt was found slightly loose – when tightened to ensure good earth for cylinder head all was well.

So after trying various ideas and suggestions from TM members I had a chat with Len at BHM over the phone when he listened to the engine turning over he thought it a little slow.
Len's suggestion was to try a jump start in case the battery was not providing enough oomph.

Tried this and although it didnt work straight away she eventuarry did start.
Generally I do runs of over 30 mins at least 4 times a week so the battery gets plenty of chanrging, but maybe this was disguising its true condition.

Anyway now it's time to find a replacement for the original Banner Uni Bull 50 200 which they no longer make (sems like it might be a banner power bull p60 09

Once you put the new battery in it might be worth checking that the alternator is cranking out the correct amount of juice.
