We're still managing to cling onto our NHS dentist. We had a check up yesterday but it was more a cursory glance and a curt "see you in 6 months" rather than the poking around and X-rays of previous visits.

All done to a budget I expect Alan.  mentioned an issue she had with a previously repaired tooth at the start of her six monthly check up. The whole appointment was taken up checking the one tooth.

We now pay £29 per month. That gets us two checkups each and a hygienst visit only.
If we need anything else we pay.
If we didn't pay the £29 & went pay as you go they will play the no spacecard so you have no choice. God bless the Tories.

We have private medical cover that my employer set up. They pay half the annual fee. I pay tax on their contribution though as HMRC class it as a taxable benefit. I kept it going into retirement. It was great earlier this year for Mrs sospan. Quick and efficient. When working it was a whole family cover until children reached 18 or were still in full time education. Now just the two of us.
Dental cover is a monthly fee at a dentist within walking distance. Happy with the deal.
We look on the cost as similar to house insurance etc.. when needed it’s there.
Need a new knee? Wait for NHS and it affects your lifestyle. Pay privately and it costs ( circa £12k at least). No runaround trying to get things done. Pick up the phone and it progresses easily.
The NHS has been let down badly by all governments over the years. Tinkering and throwing money at it that gets poorly used.

We have been waiting 4 months just to get an NHS consultation for my wife for cataracts, gave up and went private. Three days for consultation four weeks later both eyes done by the senior eye surgeon from local hospital at private hospital, 6K well spent now she can see again. Still waiting for NHS appointment FFS.
