For me the real issue comes down to removing human contact and the ability to relate to others, like a trip to the pub and meeting new people in a realistic manner. Avoiding the loonies. Well at least loonies to me.
I cannot imagine how people who grow up now, using the web, on Insta posting photos of their botox brows and pumped up lips at the teenager stage are going to manage getting into a real relationship and develop a perpetual bond. I am a dinosaur. Mind you it may help slow down the over-population of the world if Durex could leverage this change and do a bit more advertising.
So much for progress. Too blinking true!

As another dinosaur I use email and SMSs. If I need to talk to someone I generally use a normal phone call, our contract gives unlimited calls for both landline and mobile in Italy. For calls to other countriesI often use Skype Out which allows you to call at very low cost. I do not use Skype for any other purpose. I also have an account with Viber which I use to keep in touch with the only girlfriend from my long lost youth that I still have contact with. For some reason that I fail to understand she only uses Viber to keep in touch with me so I don't understand why I can't talk her into switching to the only messaging app that I use: Telegram.
I have always seen the potential advantages (finding lost friends for example) of Facebook but I also well understood what is not to like about it so I have never opened an account. I was an early user af WhatsApp, and even paid their miniscule annual fee, but when Facebook paid $18 billion to acquire it I dropped it like a hot potato.
I won't go into detail as to why I use Telegram but, suffice to say that in my opinion it is the best messaging, voice, and video calling app available. I use voice and video only for family. Unfortunately for me many of my contacts are stuck in WhatsApp but I am one of those weird people that refuse to compromise and I simply refuse to have anything to do with the Meta group of companies.

With some friends and family members, I use Signal when iMessage is not available (those who don't use iPhones). Telegram seems to be very tap-proof, in Germany at least the official press tried to give Telegram a bad reputation because it was used by the bad guys, like IS, right-wing radicals, vaccination opponents during Covid-19, Russians, terrorists etc.. But in the Ukraine war you can see that it seems to be very reliable for Ukrainians as well. Maybe the attempt to give Telegram a bad image comes from the fact that the intelligence can monitor it worse than other services?

I do not use Facebook, although my wife does. She tells me that my lack of use of Facebook is because I'm a grumpy old dinosaur. My beloved wife is always paying me compliments as well. Life is good.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Had a twitter account, but only used it to follow the Worcester Warriors live scores. They're now defunct, and when Musk took over I deleted my account. Can't stand the bloke.
Have a WhatsApp thingy, and Facebook (which is now only for geriatrics according to the kids at school, which is absolutely fine by me).
Hate using the phone, so will either WhatsApp, FB Messenger, Text or Email. I've been putting off booking a bike MOT for three days, just because they don't have an online booking system and I hate ringing.
I like facebook as it is easy to keep abreast of all my mates worldwide, but tend to use it most to arrange F2F gatherings and meet ups (although often it's like herding cats)

As an aside, the fellow who started WhatsApp has a new app called Signal. The story, and make of it what you will, is that when he sold WhatsApp, promises were made that were altered after the deal was done and META purchased it (no surprises there). Once free from his non competition clause, he started Signal with the goal of providing what he believed he had created, and would be sustained, with WhatsApp. Signal pledges: "There are no ads, no affiliate marketers, and no creepy tracking in Signal. So focus on sharing the moments that matter with the people who matter to you." "Signal is an independent nonprofit. We're not tied to any major tech companies, and we can never be acquired by one either. Development is supported by grants and donations from people like you." "There are no ads, no affiliate marketers, and no creepy tracking in Signal. So focus on sharing the moments that matter with the people who matter to you." https://signal.org/Given the sentiment on this thread, much, if not all, I agree with, I thought this may be of interest.

My mates and me also use Signal.
Easy to handle and seems to be a very secure app.

I agree, as I wrote I also use Signal, it makes a very serious and safe impression and we are spared from advertising.

Thanks for the "signal" Simon I loved WhatsApp pre Meta and very much liked the philosophy behind it. I have plenty of space for more apps so I will give Signal a try, though at this point I feel that I am unlikely to switch completely from Telegram. Apart from everything else I like the translation feature which I use to follow a few chanels in other parts of the world. I like to get my news from a bit closer to the source even allowing for a certain understandable bias. I also like the fact that I can have the same account on multiple devices (I think 4 Android and 2 Windows devices at the moment). By the way I am amused by the only "sochul" link on TM at the bottom of threads is a "Tweet" button
