I'm sure I read somewhere, recently, that the soft-top should be left up and in tension if the car is unused for a while, the reasoning being that the material can shrink (new one on me).

If the material has shrunk, even slightly, and the soft-top is put in tension again either the material will return immediately to its pre-shrunk size (unlikely) or the additional tension will be transferred to the windscreen pillars (far more likely, at least for a time).

That, for my money, is the most likely route to a cracked windscreen. So I will always leave the roof in tension whenever the Mog is not being used.

There was a spate of cracked windscreens on 4/4 Sports back in the day. We never really found out why but several were affected overnight.
