Anybody changed the wing mirror bases from OEM to Librands?

The offside mirror is fine but the near side vibrates above 60 mph and I am guessing this is because of inadequate spring tension in the base? Can the springs be changed in the mirror base unit?

Cheers,

Andrew

Andy, if you want to try an almost zero cost cure first...undo and remove the mirror and stem, then slip an O ring over the arm and ping the gap open to let the O ring into the gap, 5 min job and no disturbance of the base or fixings

Hi both, I have this problem too and I have been waiting for new bases to come into Librands. Question to Cooperman: Do you mean a rubber O ring? Please can you clarify what you mean by "ping" the gap open? Thanks

Yep slim rubber O ring which should stop the chatter between the metal faces, if you carefully pull and rotate the arm against the spring tension (as if you were adjusting the arm position) you will see the gap open to slide the O ring into, you could experiment with a rubber band or some PTFE tape

The idea is that the space taken by the O ring will add additional tension to the spring

That’s a great tip and one I will try tomorrow. Strangely enough, I have an O ring kit which I had to dig out to repair my lawn mower yesterday. I will raid the box for a suitable o ring to try this fix and report back.

Thought I would report back. The O ring modification didn't seem to help.

Questions: Do the Librands bases improve this issue? Can the springs in the standard bases be changed?

So, I already had Librand bases on back order and they have finally arrived. I ordered them last year I think or maybe early this year. Anyway got around to fitting them yesterday and couldn't get over the difference in quality. The Librands are far superior - btw I'm not sponsored or paid or in any way anything to do with Librand. Hopefully below I've attached a picture. Factory supplied on the left, Librand on the right.

I thought maybe it was an expense too far but I'm very happy with the uplift in quality.
