I have been looking into an adapter cable so that the 18-pin TSM could be used instead of a 12-pin TSM and was kindly lent a 12-pin one to do some tests. Been very busy at work and as this is only a hobby it has had to go down the priority list I am sorry to say. The 12-pin TSM does not provide the flashing cadence for the indicators; that job is done by a separate flasher unit. So if the 18-pin TSM is fitted, then there 'may' be a problem as the 18 flashes on and off and that could upset the external flasher unit.
RS do not have any stock of the connectors for an adapter cable for a while (back-order mode) so I have not tried to build a cable.
The only dodgy part of the 12-pin design is the VSS input which can cause a problem. A simple remedy is to pull that wire off the 12-pin TSM and then the ECU should be happy. Autocancel will be 'unreliable' is the only downside.

If I understand you well it means that there is no way to match a 18 pins TSM in an older M3W which is now equipped with the 12 pins?
My 12 pins TSM giving me much problems and I had hoped it could be solved with a different one.

Is it feasible to consider removing the separate flasher module and connecting the new adapter harness to the leads that connected to said flasher? Therefore we would be using the 18 pin module flasher cadence and removing another potential source of failure.

Those were my thoughts Andy, relying on the built in flasher cadence of the 18 pin unit and so dispensing with external flasher relay of early models.

Intrigued by Alister's comment about removing VSS feed to TSM to keep ECU happy. This in the light of Lauren's car which presently has the VSS feed to ECU removed to keep the idling happy confused2

At the moment I experience a very erratic behavior with the TSM.

Most of the times turn signals work not at all.
Other time they don’t stop blinking without switching off by hand.
And sometimes they only give two blinks.

Luckily in a M3W you can wave with your arm if you want to make a turn 🥴

I had some serious problems with what I thought was the TSM last year, in fact I had almost got to the point of completely removing it and rewiring the indicators and lights to work independently through latching relays. But perseverance proved me wrong as I found a poor connection on a multi plug buried in the back of the dash panel. once better connections were made all the intermittent faults and blowing fuses disappeared.

Hi Lee,

Which plug made the bad connection? This extremely poor designed wiring system gives me grey hairs and headaches.

AMEN to that thought!

Anyone know what the status / availability is of an 18-pin TSM-2? Sent a PM to Alister, but have not heard back...
