For the sake of clarity in James explanation nearside and offside typically only refer to UK right hand drive cars. So nearside is left hand and offside right hand which is probably easier understood internationally.

But the benefit of saying NS and OS is that it aligns to the market. As long as you know which market is being discussed.

So in the US (Wheel on left side as sitting in the seat) NS remains NS even if they are sitting in the wrong seat. This aligns to the headlamps needing to point to the NS in their pattern for that market ?

The trouble is on a 20yr old car in theory the lamps are pulled out 20 times if the sliders are slightly bent you may still get the lamps in and after putting everything together will never get proper adgustement. If there are mole grip marks along the sliders you may well have a problem. My first Aero which was fully service stamped had a wayward piece of ally fitted to raise the rail which had sheered the plastic lug the professional Morgan oik screwed a selftapper into the headlight against the rail to gain adgustement. A service on the car used to fill me with dread only because of the headlight a ridiculous state of affairs really and one of the many reasons I decided to sell. I will never have another car with sense of theatre the series 1 had and whatever anyone tells you the suspension got a bit muted on the later models. Em

Agreed re later suspension be muted.

My Son (works for MMC) drove my S1 and was well impressed commenting on how the suspension worked better than later cars he’d driven.
