I understand that all CX cars come with the air conditioning compressor fitted to their engines. Does anyone have a view on how different it would be to get air on working.
I understand MMC are very reticent about providing this information, it makes me wonder if it might not be too difficult.
Does anyone have a view or has done it?

The engines bought by Morgan are "off the shelf" BMW units and as you cannot buy a BMW without A/C I can see why it is there. Removing it would be a waste of time and money and require a custom serpentine belt... If the heater box also has the A/C matrix in it and the wiring loom has the necessary parts then any competent BMW specialist could do the job but if the A/C enabled heater box is not the same as the heater only box then it could be an expensive project.

I can tell you that the later Classics had aircon wiring within the standard loom for both compressor clutch, pressure transducer and dash switch Gary. My Roadster even has the aircon relay installed. Similarly the heater box has external fittings to take the a/c matrix. If the CX also redundant a/c wiring included and compressor fitted it may only require a/c radiator and cooling matrix within heater box for complete working system, as Peter suggests.

May also require a BCU reflash so the system recognises the AC
I know of one CX with spotlights added by the owner that required a Factory reflash to enable them to work...balmy !

I think that there is a good chance a software flash will be required. It’s an expensive option and Morgan will want to ensure people go the official route. It would be interesting to see them in the factory as a comparison

A bit away from the question of the OP, and the 2012 Plus 4 "trad" may be different to the Roadster, but Morgan made a real hashup of fitting a/c to my series. The routing of the a/c pipes is terrible and worse the electrical side was all wrong. I blew several fuses and dash circuit boards before fitting the custom dash and completely different wiring to my car with factory fitted aircon. I would strongly suggest getting very proffesional help to undertake the task of retrofitting aircon. Why any car that costs as much as the CX series comes without aircon as standard I can not imagine. And, before someone starts the story of why would you want aircon in a topless car, I can assure you that when it gets up over 30°C you feel very happy to have at least tepid air coming out of the vents. When the sun is beating down we have even been known to put the hood up and the aircon on full. Put it down to global warming

There is nothing nicer than cool air wafting over your feet and legs driving on a hot day with the roof down. The Boxster has effective, if simple A/C and this summer it was in use most of the time. As Peter has said, there are times when hood up, windows down and A/C on makes total sense.

Not just for the sunny days, in a convertible especially with a mohair hood, in heavy rain you need air conditioning to stop the windows from misting up so you can see where you are going. A simple heated screen or heater is not always effective in dealing with the condensation created by wet weather.
