I finally gave in and went to the Revival this year expecting it to be more along the lines af the Members Meet ( which looks great on U tube ) I have to say that I was very disappointed by what I found. It reminded me more of Camden Market, with a '50's music festival oh, and a bit of racing thrown in for good measure.
Despite taking out a second mortgage for the weekend tickets, I was annoyed to find that there were still lots of areas into which I couldn't venture without paying again.
The best part of the whole event was the '60's car park where I happily spent a couple of hours looking at the cars and chatting to owners. I certainly wouldn't go again. On the way back, we called into Brooklands, what a great place, certainly lived up to my expectations. What is the general opnion, did I miss something???

I used to enjoy the Revival in the late 1990's and early 2000's. Now, as you say, it's much too crowded, restricted and expensive. I recommend trying the Circuit Des Remparts at Angouleme -- better food, more fun and less expensive.
It's the same weekend at the Revival. Some years ago when I was there in a quasi official capacity I suggested to the organisers that, since about 60% of the participants are Brits, they might change the weekend of their event so as not to clash with
Goodwood thus attracting more punters from the UK. The response was typically French, along the lines of, " Err....our event is much older than theirs so they 'av to change weekend". For those who have not experienced the Circuit des Remparts

It is getting harder to find events which are not made just for the sponsors/self promoter youboobers/profit. Thank the heavens for Goodwood and smaller places like the Ace Cafe etc.

I wonder how much effect ULEZ will have on businesses like Ace Cafe?

I went to the Sunday this year, after a friend exhibiting a car in the Lotus parade offered me a couple of freebies on the Saturday evening. Bit of a rush sorting out something appropriate to wear to access the parade area. Needn't have worried, it looked as though anything short of a mankini passed! A nice day until it rained, some lovely bodywork to feast ones eyes on and the cars were nice too. Not sure I'll bother going again though, too busy and seems like the Duke's got Michael O'Leary onboard with regards to charging.

The Revival is now such a well established event after 25 years, unfortunately now the corporates seem to be heavily involved which pushes the prices up considerably. I used to go in the early days and thoroughly enjoyed it but, I much prefer the Members meeting now which is much more low key, and the racing is as good as any event anywhere.

There certainly is a 'them and us' feel about the revival, BUT, it's still a fantastic experience. I have been going for years and to be fair there have been times when I've thought 'is it worth it, shall I not bother going again', but I always do.

I've been to the MM a few times and it is far more civilised, I've been to the FoS and it's full on corporate hospitality, the Revival is just something special.
Even if you weren't interested in car racing there's a lot to see and do. I don't bother with a stand seat any more, there's no time for sitting when there's so much to look at.
There's surely something for everyone, they certainly try their hardest to cater for all tastes.

I go every year and always enjoy it. Usually I do two days (there is too much to see in just one) but this year a mate from New Zealand came over and we did the whole weekend.

Just a couple of counter-points to the above.

Crowds. One of the most common complaints. Everybody thinks it is much more crowded than when they first went. In reality, the capacity has been capped at 50,000 per day since 2004. The event always sells out so that is how many are there, every year. This, incidentally, is less than a lot of the events "in period" (1948-1966) when race days would see over twice that number. Old photographs show the crowds 6 or 7 deep around the fencing.

Cost. My weekend ticket cost me £180, which is £60 a day. For that you get a whole day, from 8.30 am until 9.00 in the evening. A seat for a 2-hour performance of "The Sound of Music" at the Festival Theatre the previous week was £52. If I had any wish to watch 22 millionaires kick a bag of air around a field for 90 minutes at a premier league stadium I would have needed to have spent more. As mentioned, the event always sells out so economics would suggest that the tickets are too cheap.

Brooklands. Yes still a very nice place but there are a lot of misgivings about the current management. An article in the September issue of "The Automobile" about this year's Double-12 event and the subsequent letters makes sobering reading. I feel Goodwood is in much safer hands.

Very interesting cross section of thoughts. I have been to the Mille Miglia. IMHO, by far the best car event I been to. I have also done the Laon Event, good fun that however and the FofS, however I still think that the Revival is over rated. but based on the number of people that go, I am obviously missing something. Like, why would you pay a small fortune then sit in a field to watch a film, in this case it was "Grease". Still, thank goodness we still have the freedom of choice.

Mrs Image and myself have decided we should bite the bullet (the bullet in this case being that it's 600 miles away* ) and attend the 2024 Revival.... have a general idea what goes on there .... as several members seem to have been recently, can anyone give advice.?

What do tickets actually cost to get round the things to be seen (entry tickets and any 'supplementary' charges?)

Camping ... want to walk from the camping to the track if possible (and have heard that zone E can be noisy as its staff and competitors)

Really just 'real-world' experience of the info on their website and how it plays out in reality.

*One possibility may be to use my race rig to trailer down to Yorkshire and carry on in the Morgan from there if time seems tight ... but I do like the idea of wombling the length of the country on A roads if things permit .... only thing I do know is that I don't want a 600 mile drone down the motorway system!!

Also might combine it with a factory visit as we'll be down in the Deep South anyway!
