We had to sell our beloved Roadster 4 years ago, but we are now in the position Of owning a Morgan again. We are out of the loop but we have driven a nearly new Plus4 automatic which on first impressions was fantastic. Appreciate this is a very wide question, but very generally has the new model been well received and been a success with Morgan owners? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have had a new CX Plus Four since March 2021. It is automatic. It’s my fourth Morgan. It is simply light years ahead of the first 3!!i find it comfortable, has more than adequate power and even “She who must always be listened to” says its a pleasure to be driven in it!!!! The main drawback to it is the price which is huge and definitely reduces the attractiveness- there are few who can justify it even with “man maths” so I wonder how successful it will be, but I love mine!
Cheers!

Like Jon says, buy another roadster, lots more fun, less bother and cheaper.
Fed up with my Plus Four Auto, dodgy brakes, replacement radiators, rattles, funny electrics, instruments misting up, leaking roof, the list is endless. Every time you go out in it you never know if you’re going to get home again without the aid of a breakdown truck! Great shame as underneath all the troubles there is a good car trying to get out. Give it another few years, hopefully by then a few fixes will have been applied.

Being an owner of a Plus Six I can not comment in detail on the Plus Four series. I can tell you that in 14 months of ownership of our car it has either been at the dealer ( mostly) or at the factory for over 8 months of our ownership. We have totalled over a A4 page of repairs being undertaken including the brakes and radiators ( 3rd one on our car ).. To be fair to Morgan and the dealer they have looked at every fault, not always fixing the issue though.
I think upto this present manufacturing year if you purchase a Plus Six or Four it will be pot luck if you get a car that is either fault free from the factory or you will have issues ( hopefully to be sorted under warranty ).
The positives of the CX range : They are genuniely nice cars to drive.. suspension, autobox, engine etc are good.. When they work they work well.
The negatives : I think upto this MY there is a question ref overall quality control on the finished product from the factory. There also appears to be common issues experienced by owners, which points to either a lack of pre production design testing or the quality of items used in the cars construction. In my comments I have noted " upto this years manufacturing year". The reason I say this, there does appear to be a step up in finish from this MY, the unknown question has this been applied to the overall car?, only time will tell.
I know I am going to get some flack from CX owners ref the above.. but it is how it is.. some owners will have had trouble free cars others not.. We unfortunately have had a major amount of faults.
We owned a Roadster prior to our CX purchase.. It was a nice car but also not without a few niggles.. With time I found the clutch was too strong and the gearbox ratios not that great.. We also had to fix sagging rear suspension etc.. These were some of the reasons we changed to a Plus six.
Would I purchase another CX series.. maybe, maybe not. I certainly would not purchase a used Plus Six without a good warranty.. I would also try and use it during the winter, so that if there are issues they are fixed before the summer.

Thanks very much for all your comments. The car I’m looking at is one of the first and has had the brake recall and is on sale for under 60k. We did 25k in the Roadster without any major problems and with Dave and the other forum members help I even learnt how to service the car. Not sure I could cope with the potential problems - back to the drawing board! Thanks again - appreciated.

Thanks Dave - very detailed and helpful. This car is a private sale and has no Morgan or independent warranty. Appreciate all your help. Do you have a Morgan dealer near you? If so, is it worth calling them and asking whether they would do a pre-purchase inspection on the car you are looking at, and offer an extended warranty off the back of that? I cannot confirm whether they will but it is worth a call. I've been around long enough to see plenty of posts complaining about issues on every model of Morgan which has been purchased new, or nearly new. As with most things in life, people who are unhappy tend to post about it, where as people who have few issues with their cars don't. I am not saying the people who have had issues are wrong but, in my humble opinion, that it is unfair to judge anything by simply reading feedback from one section of the customer base. I've never driven a CX, so cannot comment on how reliable or not they are; however, for reference, my Aero S3, which I purchased new, had so many faults (both factory issues as well as dealer caused ones), I swore I'd never buy another Morgan... ...four Morgans later, well, lets just say they get in your blood.
