Hi Shakey2, I would in most part agree with the comments Simon has made.. For every CX car with issues there will be others with none or small easy fixs.. We have seen a lot of problems with ours, but we have kept the faith ( hard though that has been at times ) and still have the car, as we like it and believe we are getting near the end of the tunnel with its issues.

There is no doubt that Morgans have bundles of character...you will struggle to find that with the majority of current production cars.

I would say shop carefully for a Plus Four using the brain and not the heart. Look at cars advertised through the owners club or on TM that have a known life and maintenance history. Alternatively, go to a respected Morgan dealer who would cover the car they are selling.
If you do want to purchase privately there are aftermarket companies available online that offer warranties, its just a case of doing the home work and chosing the provider carefully. ( I think Simons suggestion of a pre inspection via a Morgan dealer is a good idea ) ..
If you do go for a Plus Four that comes with a warranty make sure you use it a lot while its still covered, that way if you do initially experience a problem to sort its not to your account..

Well interesting comments.

Wife is just about to take delivery of her new Plus 4 and I do hope most of these issues have been sorted but having owned Morgans since I was 21 I reckon there will indeed be issues. It’s the price you pay to drive something with character and charm I feel

We need pics when it arrives!

As for the second part of your post, I am inclined to agree, although I do think MMC can make a rod for their own backs. I've lost count of how many times people have small niggles with their cars, that could have been caught at pre-handover checks (or better QA during the build), and this sets the tone for ownership. For the most part, I believe people are understanding with what amounts to a hand-built product but those small niggles mean less tolerance with other, unforeseen, issues because the goodwill, on the part of the customer, has been exhausted or, at least, depleted.

Viper, I know you've been involved in MMC focus groups and as you are aware, many owners have fed back that setting customer's expectations at a realistic level is an important step to decreasing issues from new-to-Morgan owners. In my opinion, they have not embraced this and therefore, most people, who are used to buying 'white goods like' cars are unprepared for "the price you pay to drive something with character and charm." I'm not excusing poor quality but I cannot help but feel that many of these issues would be helped by (a) better QC and (b) setting the expectations of someone new to Morgan that there may be issues, BUT that they will be dealt with. Obviously the key is that they need to be dealt with promptly and efficiently; which can be another part that the factory, and some dealers, fall down on.

However, at the end of the day, even with the ally chassis, and the snazzy branding, these are still hand built cars, made in a low tech factory by skilled crafts people. Not everyone who buys a Morgan gets the chance to visit the factory but I wish they could - watching the cars being made gives perspective to just how much goes into each vehicle. With that said, and I made this comment when the Aero range kept increasing in price, I believe the higher the price point the less tolerant customers are regarding issues - I would also argue rightly so. However, I would also add that a lot of what we are talking about is not unique to the CX platform cars. I've had first hand experience helping unhappy owners of new Plus 4, V6 Roadsters, Aero 8s and M3W; much of which has been written about on this forum by the owners themselves. The CX is not unique in some owners having niggles and issues (small or large) but it does come at a time when MMC seem to be wanting to raise both their profile and compete with other sports cars.

Buying ours was the right move. Already done 4k+ miles since late July. It has a couple of niggles as I have posted about. Handbrake and now gauges failing. Going into Williams to be sorted. No signs of coolant problems.
As with other Morgans some design decisions are open to discussion. No 12V power socket but two usb sockets tucked away in the back of the glovebox. Not the best location but liveable with. Stowage leaves a lot to be desired. The tank capacity confusion needs better clarification but assuming 250miles for refill leaves a margin for error. We were doung 200+ miles a day so refill near to the hotel on return meant no “ range anxiety”.
The 500+ mile journey home went well. 2 fuel stops, coffee, lunch and comfort stops and the improved ride over the trad meant less fatigue and relaxed.
The car drives well in auto mode. Spirt/Sport+ are good too with the paddles. Normal auto copes well with kickdown response! I can imagine how a Plus Six with the extra bhp/torque can take the car beyond some peoples’ skill level !
On the recent Scotland trip I was getting 50mpg on some days, dropping to 45 mpg on faster road days, normal auto mode.
Not a cheap car but no regrets at all despite the little niggles. It’s a Morgan after all !
Waiting for early model problems to be found and sorted is the answer!
