Hi, the gear shifting linkage on our 1973 +8 RHD fitted the original Rover 4-speed gearbox, is rather sloppy.

Does anyboby know where to buy nylon bushes for the linkage and the gear stick?

I've tried the local Danish distributor and Melvy Rutter, but in vain.

Any help much appreciated.

I've ordered mine at Superpro. Not sure they will fit your 4-speed box, you will have to check though.

Click for source. The same 4 speed Rover box was used on a variety of P6 models including beefed up version for 3500S. I'm assuming they used similar gear change linkage though.

I think TKC3796 might be a metal version of those bushes. There is also the nylon bush from the remote selector rod to the gearbox, 42H1113, which can become worn. I think this is a 'bin part' also used in Austin Allegro!

May I help? The cars that used these failing bushes are listed in the diagram. All others are different. Calypso has the right gomog diagram but is pointing to the wrong place and component. The guilty bushes are indicated by arrows to "rubber bushes", also known as plastic or rubberized plastic.

The bush part numbers are UKC854 (origjnal) or in neoprene (advised) UKC854POLY . Colors of the poly will vary depending on who you buy them from. The Land Rover people began coloring theirs yellow when the demand for them became akin to a plague. Simply google these numbers for suppliers and pick the price or color you wish.

Easy access to this area is needed for many reasons over these cars' lifetimes. Some gurus and I are considering an article explaining how to reduce access time down to minutes from hours. (now 5 hours for a professional and 10 hours for 2 amateurs as described here). Discretely speaking, such sorts of moggers have been doing so for decades. The ridiculous access time for such simple jobs is a function of the inadvertent and innocent creep of minor obsolescence created in the Production Department over the years. The Development Department would never have oked these covers. They are easily remedied costlessly. However, we are looking for a one time solution solves all this area's access problems in one move.
