Good afternoon, I have very recently become the proud owner of a Morgan Plus 6, with the intention of undertaking a number of road trips with my wife in both The UK and in France.

My first surprise has been that there is no option or provision for a spare wheel for the Plus 6 ! I had wrongly assumed that the circular cover on the rear of my car, was a suitably prepared orifice to take a spare wheel. Given my intention to drive around two thousand miles around France, the absence of a spare wheel is something of a concern.

Having previously owned an Aero 8 ( Mk 1 ), I was aware that luggage space is usually at a premium. This appears to be particularly the case with the Plus 6 ! My car has not had any preparation for a luggage rack, which presumably means that the area behind the seats will have to somehow accommodate two weeks luggage ? Does anyone have any clever recommendations for luggage items which will optimise the capacity of the available space.

I thought one significant reason for no spare wheel on Plus 6 was the differing tyre sizes front and rear.

Have any PlusSix owners had a flat tyre yet ? What does the Owners Handbook say about coping with a flat ? Even with a space-saver spare of some type, where would you put the fullsize to transport it to a tyre place for repair ? Do the cars come with a can of run-flat goo of some sort ?

A friend of ours had the luggage rack brackets retrofitted to his Plus Four. It wasn't cheap (sorry, don't know the exact cost ) but it is possible.

If you want to make trips of two weeks with this vehicle together with your wife, then you need a luggage rack. For the space behind the seats I can recommend this suitcase. luggage

You will need the factory ordered preparation for the luggage rack, that is the two lower mountings to the chassis! That means you have the two holes in the rear valance with the mountings behind. If they are not there it will become a rather expensive project, however, theoretically, it can be done!

Furthermore, I recently saw a picture of a PlusSix with 5th wheel, I guess that should be the smaller front wheel as they have different tires front and rear.

As above, you need the prep for luggage rack fitting. Librands do racks for cars with or without a spare wheel, and I have one on my Plus Four with a spare wheel. The rack without spare wheel should sit lower allowing better visibility through the rear window unless a BIG case/bag is on there!
Your dealer should be able to do the prep/fit a rack.
My car came with both a spare wheel and a can of “goo” to spray in.

Whilst on the subject of CX luggage racks has anybody taken the support brackets off to get them reinforced welded. Are they held on with captive nuts/tapped thread or are there loose nuts involved? Does the lower rear valance come off with just the four bolts that you see underneath. Any information would be gratefully received as this might be a winter project before the brackets break!
