I suspect that is just doing short journeys John. I doubt stop/start would make much difference to DPF clogging. That was my initial reaction to the posts, I'm not sure how much dirtier if any (soot particles) the start up is, and the Mercedes does restrict it to 4 start ups in quick succession.

HI We have had various Mercedes for 20 years. As already said the activation of stop/start is based on various criteria. However my experience is that the biggest reason for it not working is the condition and charge within the battery. The system cuts out stop start when battery charge is low to protect the ability of the car to "Start" as a matter of initial use as opposed to repeated stop/start on a single journey.
Also depending on what model and year determines whether car has one or two batteries. For example my wifes 2005 SL had two her current 2016 only has one. My current ML/GLE has only one. On both cars, being left unused for a period of time knocks out stop/start. I assume the Alarm is consuming the power when the car is out of use. We go to Spain regularly for two weeks. I leave the SL in the garage on a battery conditioner because if I dont there is a good chance when we come back the car prevents all "Convenience Functions (Roof, stop start etc) from working until battery is recharged through use. Using Conditioner whilst away ensures no issue on return
. The GLE is left at Airport Car Park. Car always starts but even after 75 mile drive home the Stop/start is not working (battery low).. I can ignore it and after a few days of use it kicks in again. I now find it easier to put the battery on charge overnight using the remote terminals under the bonnet. Once done the Stop/Start immediately functions and no issues until return from next two week absence. Hope this helps Ian
