Looking for bit of advice on how to Remove and Replace the LH rear stop tail light on my 2013 M3W. Seems to involve dropping the rear steel pan at the rear of the car. What colour cables should I be looking for and the type of connector from lamp to loom. Any help with pics would be appreciated. Replacement lights are available from Car Builder Solutions - cant understand why they are sold as a pair.

Once you have removed that rear panel various Econoseal connectors should be visible including a six way with matching plug providing individual feeds to each stop/tail light. The replacement LED stop/tail unit unless purchased at much higher price from MMC, will just have bare coloured wires and a decode for which is stop, tail and common ground connection.
Either way the three wires with captive pins from faulty lamp will need to be removed from plug, allowing removal of lamp itself, noting red/black l/h sidelight, green/purple stop and black common ground positions. These pins are barbed to secure within plug body and need to be teased out with 3.2mm blade after backing out the rubber waterproof seals. If you have bought the replacement from say car builder solutions you will need to crimp on fresh Econoseal pins after sliding on seals before inserting pins in correct order into the now vacant slots followed by seals. Various kits of these connectors are available on eBay and there are YouTube videos showing how to remove and re-insert pins.

Thanks Richard
With the rear steel surround panel removed I can view the Econoseal connectors although very tightly bunched.(Not much room for the hands)
Do I need to remove the leather hinge and hence the complete boot lid to gain any further access.
Point taken on Econoseal connectors

Yes Gordon, forgot to mention, removing hinge strap is needed although you can probably get away without removing whole boot lid.

Rather than obtaining the tool to fit new connectors just cut solder & heat shrink the old wires to the new light.
There is a clue in the name as to why Car Builders Solutions sell lamps in pairs..... Personally I always like to have spare lamps in stock anyway.
