The bases of both doors on my 2000 car have rubbed through the paint to the metal on the main body tub. I'll address this over the winter and prevent it happening again by fitting appropriate rubber sealing material. I've checked and am satisfied that the hinges and door mounts are all in perfect order, and that the door latches are correctly adjusted. I'm just wondering if anybody else has experienced this and if it's normal.
I note that later cars appear to have been fitted with rubber door seals, probably to prevent this??

The door seals stop the rain coming in, hopefully.

When I re-skinned my doors I found a little judicious finger pressure would fine tune the door edge fit to the body.

Some Trads chafe badly around the doors, some don't chafe at all. My 2012 after 12k miles was badly chafed both sides. I repaired the paint as best I could, then after it dried completely, added a paint protection film at the points of contact. My Roadster has never chafed so it's the handbuilt thing at play. I did see one Trad where the chafing was bad around one hinge point after hardly any mileage. That's a tough one to sort out.

Thanks Dave, Mines exactly like that but a bit worse!
Seems it's the luck of the draw with handbuilt. Judicious painting followed by protection seems the way forward. Just a shame it's tricky to sort really well.
