Fitting thread rubbers will not cure your problem. They protect only the horizontal part of the wing, and most likely the scuffs occur where the wing curves down towards the ground, i.e. lateral to the rubbers. I have them and dislike them. They look good, but are water traps and a nuisance for washing and polishing. I wound never have fitted them if the car were bought new. If you still choose to do so, be sure that bolts and nuts are non-corrosive (SS + for instance ACF 40 or alternatively nylon). The OEM ones that are used for fitting are terrible, rusting to pieces. If you look at a car with thread rubbers of a certain age, you will often see small bulges along the rubber. Lift it up and you will see the rusty remnants of a small bolt. As suggested above, I tell my passengers to take care and lift their feet well over the wing.

Why not replace the PPF, I replaced mine often to my 4/4 keeping it looking scuff free. The running boards are the easiest ones to install with less curves and mainly flat. I always kept a few spare.

Craig ... I'm sure it's been covered elsewhere but how do you remove PPF? .... I would go for warming with a hairdryer and peeling it off ... but is there a better/safer way? ..... want to move the PPF protection under my bonnet strap as the belt has settled a bit further forward than I expected.

My car would have had a tread rubber but I left it of and it now has a line of small polished stainless button-head set-screws with black plastic washers ... all well waxoyled above and below when fitted.

Peel off very slowly applying a little heat with a hairdryer. On hot summers days its easier to peel, it still takes some pulling off, but don't be afraid it wont damage the paint. I then apply mentholated spirits to clean before applying the new PPF.

I had 3 tread rubbers on my Roadster and PPF on the wings and no matter how much we tried its almost impossible not to scuff the film when getting out, it gets worse the older you get, the less agile you are and the more you struggle to clear the wing. The rubber keep coming out of my treads if I step on them, I just get the PPF tape replaced when it becomes unsightly. I not sure with the wings being made of aluminium how easily they may distort or depress if weight is applied on them. I do know from expensive experience I left an impression in my rear wing when I pushed against it with my hand to help myself out of the car.

My Roadster also has 3 tread rubbers and PPF. After I've done a particularly fine job of polishing the car, I wear thick cotton socks and take my shoes off before getting into and out of the car (there's space for them on the cabin floor, under my knees). Driving in socks is quite comfy and probably not illegal... in past years in other cars I have driven in wellies and bare feet (not at the same time though).

A novel approach to dealing with a scuffing issue. I must admit I 've never thought of driving in my socks, do you not find the pedals quite heavy in use and more of a struggle in just socks to operate/depress hard when necessary. I heard of treating things with kitten gloves but not thick socks. The lengths we sometimes go to.

OK hands-up for a touch of OCD. Socks on pedals is fine (I have an organ throtle pedal). And I use the same approach to muddy shoes -- so if you're ever a passenger of mine, reach for the Waitrose carrier bags (other supermarkets are available).

Driving without shoes or with flip flops (slippers) is illegal in Belgium
