As the Malvern Arms is for random musings here's a thread for posting Art that you've just come across or has stuck in your head over the years ... nothing precious just share away 🙂 .... there's so much out there it's easy for things to pass you by.

Just like this with me! ... for some reason I've never seen this before! ...from a fresco at Pompeii .... as fresh and striking as if it was painted yesterday rather than 2100 years ago ... colours and perspective and the direct gaze of the subject just timeless. Love it!

So, what have you got?

Govinder Nazran did a series around cats which often caught the funny side of the cats soul. Sadly he passed some time back. Certainly not of the same historic value but for me equally touching.

As a confirmed 'cat person' I love that.

Thread isn't about what's most 'worthy' .... just about those images that are made by Humans that for some reason (and not always an intellectual one) just strike a chord with some other Humans who inhabit this Forum .... although I'm married to an artist I'm definitely tending towards 'I like that!' as my touchstone for Art rather than the ever more torured and complex theoretical explanations the Art world comes up with for why some daub is worth a lot of money .... Thread's about 'Heart-Art' .... not 'Head-Art' 🙂

Purchased in 1973 an upcoming local artist in Brixham from the harbour frontage where he painted and displayed. He now part owns a gallery in much the same spot overlooking King Billy of Orange statue. Gallery.

When I was a senior in college a long time ago, I had finished all my pre medicine admission requirements and took an art history class, “ The Renaissance to Modern Times “. I loved it and was one of my favorite classes. I’ve always appreciated the Impressionism movement, especially Monet. Below is one of my favorite plein air Monets.

“Claude Monet painted The Poppy Field in 1873 on his return from the United Kingdom (in 1871) when he settled in Argenteuil with his family until 1878. It was a time that provided the artist with great fulfillment as a painter, despite the failing health of Camille. Paul Durand-Ruel, Monet's art dealer, helped support him during this time, where he found great comfort from the picturesque landscapes that surrounded him and provided him with plenty of subject matter from which to choose. It was a time that Monet's Plein air works would develop, and this particular painting was shown at the first Impressionist exhibition of 1874.
This beautifully depicted summer's day is captured in all its glory with the vibrant poppies complementing the wispy clouds in a clear blue sky. In the landscape, a mother and child pair in the foreground and another in the background are merely a pretext for drawing the diagonal line that structures the painting. Two separate color zones are established, one dominated by red, the other by a bluish-green. The young woman with the sunshade and the child in the foreground is probably the artist's wife, Camille, and their son Jean.
Monet diluted the contours and constructed a colorful rhythm with blobs of paint starting from a sprinkling of poppies; the disproportionately large patches in the foreground indicate the primacy he put on visual impression. A step towards abstraction had been taken.”

Image,

The young girl in your painting looks like a modern teenager. Unreal.

Here an etching we bought from the artist Wolfgang Werkmeister direct.

The etching is called "Altes Hecktor". That means "old gate on a dike".

It shows a part of the northern german coast near the Danish border.
We often stay for some days very neart to this location. But this "Hecktor" does no longer exist!

Wolfgang Werkmeister is 83 years old northern german artist.
We met him two times and each time we had a very lively chat for over 3 hours.

It is very interesting to talk with an artist who has experienced so much in his long live.

Of course he was enthusiastic about the shape of the 4/4.
He invited us to visit him in his home near Husum/ Northsea.
We hope that this meeting is still possible at some point.
