The only thing that I really dislike about my lovely roadster 100 is the steering column shroud. i know there have been some posts about this before.. There seem to be two types, a small ugly rectangular one, and a larger very ugly ill-fitting oval type, which I have..how Morgan can produce a beautifully crafted cockpit and stick these in is beyond belief!
Woodwork is my other pastime, so my alternative to having it covered in leather, which would leave me with a slightly less ugly ill-fitting leather shroud (and seriously out of pocket) was to play around in my workshop with some American walnut.

It was a slightly fiddly job to get a good fit, but I'm quite pleased with the result. I couldn't find any wood to match the dash, but the colour works well with the leather wheel (which I find more comfortable to use than the standard wood rim version).

Very smart. I like that. Well worth the effort.

Very smart Richard thumbs

There is an option on the Motolita steering boss's as well. I have this style, part # B71J

You can get some fancy 'dips' that coat contoured plastic (I think someone on TM had the hood pull done) assume you could coat this too

A worthwhile job as the black plastic shroud isn't the most attractive of designs.

I did something similar to expose the steering column ribs, fabricated a plastic closure plate with internal stiffeners all superglued together and reinforced with fibreglass resin. Sprayed to match the car colour.

Both solutions on this thread look fab. I assume MMC simply used the "ugly" ones for cheapness / parts-bin convenience, or do they serve any useful purpose like preventing/minimising reflections on the screen ?

There is a very nice stalk solution from this German parts manufacturer:http://www.mk-holztechnik.de

Yes, the original shroud solution is a shocker.

I like the look of the Motolita boss Richard, but not the price!
This was my prototype, in African walnut, the colour came up a bit light for my leather wheel, but is a good match for my other wood rim wheel,
I have a template to make these now (in any wood choice) if anyone is interested…much cheaper than the leather covering option!
