As Morgan Motor Company do not seem to be interested in carrying out reinforcement work to their sub standard brackets (of which there have been several failures) I decided to take proactive action. A failure hundreds of miles from home and probably abroad with a full case does not particularly appeal. I removed the rear valence and the brackets to get them reinforced by extra welding . A fairly straight forward process except getting the stuck on number plate off was difficult and there is a hidden bolt behind the plastic inner wing lining which was tricky to get out and a real b..... to get back in!
PS Remember to protect the nice chrome exhausts before dropping the valance, tape around the bracket holes also helped.

A loop of fishing line is great for removing sticky bud fixed number plates without damage

I was at the factory last week and as informed there is a recall on the rack mounts.
They offered to do mine there and then but I didn’t have the 90 mins.
They are doing at the next service.

Interesting and useful trick with the fishing line!
Typical about the recall after I have done it! I think they had to do it as it can cause real damage when they let go.

That's good news, but a little bit late. However better late than never! I have had mine doublewelded by the dealer couple of months ago, after the troubles of CLPlusFour!

I have loaded the photos so they should show in the post. The trad rack is I understood only good for 25kg. Overloading might also be an issue as SWMBO can easily get a case to weigh more than that. On our trad we put the heavy stuff on the back shelf.

Just spoken to my dealer re the bracket recall as my 23 MY Plus Six is currently there for a radiator replacement as it had failed. They have said they have not been informed of a recall re the brackets but will speak to Morgan on Monday.

Seems typical of the poor communication from the Morgan factory. I sometimes wish our club (the MSCC) would be more proactive in communicating with the factory and holding them to account for the variable and at times unacceptable build quality on what is now a £100,000 car

Thanks John V6 for loading the photos properly. I am a bit of an amateur with loading photos and thought they had loaded from TM image Library. What did i do wrong?
I know another CX owner who will be asking about the recall on the brackets on Monday. Hopefully my brackets are now ok, our case is usually about 21/22 kg for a two week tour with other stuff behind the seats.

Even if you are within the 25kg limit on dead case weight when you go over a nasty bump or yomp at speed the dynamic weight and point load will increase significantly, hence owners shearing the welds
