You do win occasionally Ewan. I have 2 pals with 328s and both bought in a previous classic car dip at £20k in one case and £35k in another. Even in the current market both could sell fairly quickly if they accepted £60k which is some £20k down from the peak. Mind you its taken them maybe a couple of decades to get to this position.
Personally I have a real talent for losing money on cars. I'm down at least £20k on the current one.

I often rib my mate about his Ferrari 365GTC. IIRC he bought it for about £60K and sold it a year or so later for similar. 10 years later it was up for sale for £600K....

I often rib my mate about his Ferrari 365GTC. IIRC he bought it for about £60K and sold it a year or so later for similar. 10 years later it was up for sale for £600K.... Yes all because they have the in vogue requisite 12 cylinders.....in my experience not great cars to drive!

Absolutely, as in some circles anything less that 12 cylinders whether flat or V shaped just doesn't cut it

He's usually a Porsche man, having had everything from a 356 to a GT3RS, but appreciates all forms of automobilia (he even likes my Mog and MG). His daily drive is an Audi S6 5.2 V10 - I think it has a Lamborghini engine? Lots of fun for a smidge over £10K

Just imagine the cost of removing the flat 12 from a 512 as required for a belt change! And they still only manage 350 bhp from 5 litres.

Howard,
I know a friend had a Testarossa, and his servicing costs were enormous, not particular fast either and he hardly used it. He also had a '65 Ferrari 330GT? the twin headlamp 4 litre 12 cylinder which was crap to drive, but the price of the 330 shot up during his ownership. He has since seen the light and drives vintage and modern Bentleys, but I don't think his servicing cost have improved any, but he is much happier with his toys.
