It seems that lithium battery technology is about to take a quantum leap.

I've heard that Toyota only wants to use batteries like this by 2027. Then the dangerous, inextinguishable fires will also be a thing of the past. I bet as soon as all new cars come with solid state batteries, the current batteries will be banned in every underground or private garage or on ferries. Today's highly dangerous and self-igniting batteries have only been pushed in order to promote EVs for ideological reasons.

As Heinz suggests Toyota seem to be leading development with availability in 2027 but keeping their options open with Ammonia fueled IC engines the molecules of which contain no carbon.

I have been following the solid state story for over a year. I have no interest in anything electric until vehicles with these batteries are available. By then my daily driver will be 12 years old so maybe an option.

Ah the old Unicorn batteries, I have lost count how many times these were just around the corner, James Dyson got taken in by an American company that were just on the brink!
