With 16,000 on the car and having a general grease up and chassis nut and bolt tighten up at the front end I noticed the original equipment Conti's were down to about 2mm front and back.
This is time for replacement so on contacting my normal tyre suppliers/fitters was told the Conti's were unavailable. He asked whether I had ever tried Toyo's no being the reply, he recommended them as being sticky once the initial 200 mls has depleted the oiliness apparently carried near the surface of the tyre post manufacture.
Well I had them fitted yesterday a.m. and needing to know how sticky they were to be have enjoyed 200 miles at moderate speeds.
This afternoon the proof of their stickiness was tested shall we say and as always this guys tyre knowledge never ceases to impress me. I would recommend them in this application, the car feels more stable and holds on during cornering and in the wet a lot better than the O.E.
I'm not expecting fantastic mileage out of them but quite expect them to match the Conti's.

Wow you must be a committed driver, my conti ct22's have done nearly 30k miles (including some track and an auto solo!) and still have a fair bit of tread, although they are a bit scrubbed on the edges!
Thanks for sharing the Toyo experience though, I noticed that the contis were out os stock at camskill recently and was wondering how the toyo's faired

Thanks for the heads-up on the Toyo's......will be interesting to see how they fare for mileage.

Ive used Toyo's on my MX5.......probably the most recommended make on the forums for those...and been very pleased with them.
I questioned the choice of tyres at the factory once and was told that Conti made them for the factory...certainly I've never seen them for sale anywhere.

I'll update on here how the mileage works out, quite a few trips away this year with an Alpine tour included so I hope they stay sticky ! Missed off the other good bit the bottom line was £235-97 Not bad I thought, it costs double that to re boot my good ladies VW Polo 1.8Turbo GTI, mind you it's no slouch and if it's a Motorway trip that's the preferred car. My workhorse is a 2011 Fiesta Titanium 1.6 TDCI and although the chassis is good the power units are now fiddled with (software wise)to take the snap off the performance and divert it into being more economic. Personally that's a choice I feel I should make for myself in the way it's driven. I digress these tyres are 45 section and wiiide and run out at £400ish a set for something that has a closer relationship with a tractor performance wise than most any other car I've driven. I won't be replacing it with the same that's for sure.

That matches the statement made by my tyre suppliers/fitters.

There are not a huge choice of tyres in the 165/80/15 size......low profiles seem to be all the fashion these days!
I see the Aero Racing 4/4 Sport Competition uses 185/70/15 on the same rim width so I assume thats an alternative and there are no clearance issues.

Like the idea of a bit more width 20mm but not quite so sure about the aspect ratio in view of a few peoples experiences with sumps or to be precise "not sumps" On track I guess all the time it stays on the black stuff it's ok, interesting information though.

I suspect that the depth of the tyre will remain much the same.....if I could find my tyre size calculator I'd check!
