Between the clamps holding the cable down and the endless wind and buffeting it receives, I've had that cable lose its connection to the speed sensor. When that happens, you will lose the speedo as well as the timer determining the turn signal shut off. If the wheel is spinning it will shut off after 7 seconds. If sensor wire is cut it will never shut off.
