GOOD
Most people are good. Most people kiss their pets goodbye and read just ‘one more’ bedtime story to their children. Most people visit their grandparents even when they have no time and stop by to check on quiet friends, after a long day. Most people give money when money is scarce and most people worry about people they don’t even know, day in and day out. When the world seems bad, remember, most people are good.

Hi Sportster it's nice to be reminded by our poets and confirm the thoughts we have even as a septuagenarian these things surround most of us, some look the other way and appear to miss them.

I think this is a risky assumption to make because "most" suggests it is the vast majority of us and fails to look at any estimate of the proportions. At the same time it suggests we should trust everyone we meet and most of the time this works just fine; except when someone - anyone - betrays that trust and takes advantage.
Often the most shocking betrayals of trust are by those who choose an occupation where trust is implicit in their vocation and a cloak to hide the intentions of something more sinister.
By my own life experiences I would put the proportion at no more than 50/50. I have encountered some and am sure all of us know of someone else we would sooner shun than trust.
Evolution has demanded that from time our very survival demands a degree of having the capabilty of doing something bad, and we all cannot escape that genetic inbuilt ability should circumstances become dire or extreme.
Donna Ashworth suggests most people are good from her idyllic perspecive in the far away hills of Scotland - I know her writing would be of an opposite nature were she to be looking at the world from a high-rise flat or humble semi-detached town house.

Nice thoughts, but I wonder if Ms Ashworth’s middle name is ‘Pollyanna’

I suspect "most" if given the opportunity would prefer to share kindness and affection, or just prefer to help out another human being..? I would truly hope that more than just 50% of the population might feel so inclined unless having a very bad day...?
I also suspect that human nature dictates that we as individuals will ever seek advantage in varying degrees dependant upon our frame of mind, the culture we were raised in, the situation presented to us and whatever set of parameters utilised as personal guidelines to justify variations in our behaviour at any time..?
Justification would seem to define all...? If you consider one tribe of humans can corral a different tribe of human beings into an ever reducing area, while dropping bombs upon them, destroying the sum total of generations of that tribes efforts to build families, homes and businesses, while every other tribe on the planet can watch it all as it happens on their digital devices.... Kinda suggests to me that justifying standing by and accepting that is just a pretty normal process as one tribe seeks advantage over another, a process as I suggested above begins at the base level of the very nature of every human being......A process that I suspect has gone on since the beginning of time..?
On the other hand, I follow a very attractive young blond lady as she rides her m/cycle all over the world and would seem to risk putting herself in natural situations that are very risky over all sorts of terrain, and those of possible human interaction, that I would avoid at all costs, but she keeps on keeping on smiling all the while, a true adventurer who in the process seems to bring out the best in people..
If you care to beam up Itchy Boots and check out the countries she has ridden through you might be amazed...?
Give me peace and love every time, over hate and destruction.

I agree George, I have been following Noraly (aka Itchy Boots) for a while and she has become quite addictive, her posts are uplifting and informative. My philosophy is to approach life with a positive outlook, I have always found that if I bring optimism and look for the positive in people and events then it will by and large happen, positivity attracts positivity. I still abide by the Commando Values: Excellence, Integrity, Self Discipline and Humility, along with the Commando Spirit: Courage, Determination, Unselfishness and Cheerfulness in the face of Adversity. Of course there are always bad apples I have certainly come across many, but those are the ones or bad events that you tend to remember not the many that are good. Life is way too short to be looking for the worse outcome, head up, shoulders back, chest out and with a straight back go out and take on the world.

Noraly is certainly one very couragous young woman. If your'e inspired to travel alone another adventurer worth reading is Ted Simon and his book titled Jupiter's Travels.
