Just to add that if it is the 2 litre fiat engine (and what a brilliant engine that is) then you have a plus 4 not a 4/4 The first Fiat engined 4/4 a 1.6 litre went into production in November 1981. Maurice Owen then got hold of a fuel injected 2 litre version and fitted that in a 4/4 using the new injected V8 fuel tank. This led to production versions of the 4/4 with both Ford and Fiat engines, so to separate the performance gap the Plus 4 name was re-introduced for the 122bhp Fiat version, but not until Spring 1985 after a gap of 17 years. This according to Gregory Houston Bowden.

Surely the 2 litre engine was never marketed as a 4/4? It may well say that on the registration docs but so did my 2004 roadster...that was listed as a 3 litre 4/4 pan the registration.
Is it so that the first 2 litre Fiat engines had the thinner wheels etc of a 4/4?

The Lampredi 1600 twin-cam used by Morgan in the 4/4 (1981-1985) originally belonged to the Fiat Argenta. Towards the end of the production of the 4/4 T/C, of which 93 cars were produced, there were 10 of the cars that were fitted with a 2 litre engine, both types being normally aspirated, unlike the 2 litre engines that were fitted to the revived Plus 4 range, which was fuel injected
