Arrived just in time to win this year's award for the most pathetic phishing email.

He or she would probably do better to just ask everyone to donate something to pay for lessons to improve writting skills.

Not a Nigerian Prince in sight! I get quite a few we are from O2 and offering you 40% off.
They clearly are calling from some Asian location and start by asking for my email address. My response is always R.Soul@Mickey Mouse.com. That used to work but now they check the email validity. Shame really as I could keep them on the line for many minutes.

I'll have to work up another wheeze.

Simple. Just create a "fun" email account with one of the free email services.

Years ago we had all of the accounts for a shared house in the name of D. Folkes so I just tried opening an email account in various variations on the name, in the end d.old.folkes@xxxx (xxxx being the provider) was accepted. I abandoned it before finishing registering the account so that one is still available laugh

Cheers. They usually then go on to ask what phone I have. I say it is black but they get quite keen to know so I say I'll need my glasses & stall. Then tell them it is a Nokia but the number is worn off. If we get past that they ask if I have card I say yes & they ask what it is. The response Ace of Spades.

Great fun if you have the time.

The calls I get ask to speak to "Mr Peter". My reply is that he is deceased and that I'm his son. That usually results in an apology and the call terminates.

I've tried to vary the response by saying that I'm "Mr Peter's" carer, he is not able to talk now, due to his dementia. For some reason that doesn't seem to dissuade them....

I’ve stated answering all unknown calls with the phrase “make me a winner”. It’s a competition on several national radio stations that will pay you many thousands of pounds if you answer using that phrase. I don’t enter as I never gamble but I assure the caller that I’ve done everything correctly and want my money, then threaten to report them to the gambling commission using the number they called from. Either ends with them ending the call or trying to explain what they are selling and apologising because I say the winnings were going to pay for a hip replacement for my elderly mum

It’s quite fun really.

Here in Italy most calls are made using caller number spoofing. They seem to use robots that continually call a sequence of mobile (or landline) numbers to build up a bank of numbers not currently in use. The result is that they fake in the number for a few hours until various call blocking services pick it up and then switch to another number. If you try to call back the telecom responds with a message to say the number is not in use.

Very annoying as it pretty much hides the actual caller.
