I got the rear bumper off the 4/4 this morning, very simple with two Whitworth bolts holding the bumper & bumper guards----nothing like the circus that was the front bumper!.
I noticed that mice had returned so I vacuumed up the rodent droppings and sprayed the floorboard with animal repellant (a very raunchy mint-oid smelling concoction I picked upped at my local Ace Hardware) to discourage Mickey & Minnie from joy riding.
I'll probably take the bumpers to the plater's shop in February or March as I need to stay within my budget.

Also with bumpers.
Plus 8 this time.
Having owned Moggie for just over a year and sorted most bits out (for now), I thought I would remove the front bumper as it closer on the left side than the right front wing and it has been irking me since we purchased it.
Obviously it has had an argument with something in previous times.
So out with the flame and some heat, bending, coaxing and cooling of the offending bumper iron. It now it fits and just needs some smaller tweaks to make it look right.
Having burnt most of the paint off the bumper iron I wondered what paint to use under the black finish which would be hard enough and to resist rust. It would have to be in a small container or spray bomb.
Any suggestions?

Seasons greetings to you too. I use Matt black hammerite rattle cans for that sort of thing.

+1 although smooth black Hammerite (I use brush on) allows muck to be wiped or washed off a little more easily. Relevant if you're OCD about keeping the underneath as clean as possible.

I agree and the rattle can is smooth and gives a streak free finish, I’m not too good with a brush. Incidentally after cleaning off any rust I apply a rust converter before spraying.

I wouldn't use Hammerite/Smoothrite.

Paint film is really thin and readily pinholes.

Would use a good quality etch primer, primer then acrylic topcoat.

Our local outdoors store sells a gloss black aerosol which goes on a treat and gives a very thick paint film. About 4 quid a can

Arwyn, I only ever used Hammerite once and the hammered finish does indeed have a variable thickness, and if not applied properly can lead to pin holing as you suggest. Whereas Smoothright does not pinhole although is manufactured by the same company and comes in similar looking tins, which may be where possible confusion arises.

I have both brush and spray painted Smoothrite without issue, though there may be many superior products out there, and in some cases perhaps only available to trade or in trade packs...or only in the UK..?

I am told by staff at Halfords they no longer stock Hammerite products due to environmental issues. presume this is UK wide?

just checked on line and that does not seem to be the case, still available from Halfords!
