This month I received my Morgan magazine and there is an article that discusses an engine cover .I would ask does anybody know how to make one simply, or do I have to purchase one.

Not aware of anything available to purchase but several good folk on here have fabricated their own.

There are several ways to secure the plate. I opted for aluminium upstand brackets bolted to existing items on the engine and the intake. The aluminium cover plate was fixed to the brackets by QD dzus fasteners,

1.5mm cover plate was hand bent over timber formers in a workmate bench. A stiff cardboard template is a must to get the desired shape before cutting any metal.

Ian this is the one. A lot cheaper to knock one up if you have the right facilities to hand.

Here it is installed in SeacatTom's car before he got the Aston bug and sold it on.

Thanks for posting the pic of the engine cover Richard, very tidy, though I wonder if it restricts cyl head cooling as it looks to perhaps affect airflow and the alloy would seem likely to retain and radiate heat to some degree... Hmm..? However if that fixing system on the exhaust is a standard Morgan fitment it seem the MMC have well exceeded Porsche standards, as the manifold fixings on water cooled Porsches are abysmal, and a well known problem area some years down the line if removal of the exhaust is ever required...

The manifold mountings are "standard" (flat plate) but the manifold looks either AR or Librands.

Head cooling is always going to be the imponderable. I left a gap on my cover of maybe an inch and a half, and didn't wrap the sides down. Also painted the underside matt black, and it's no problem after a few years.

Typically Morgan, every model needs something adding. The GDI (and Duratec) need engine covers. A basic and fundamental protection for the plugs. The GDI also needs the AR flash and exhaust system...............

DaveW many thanks for taking time to reply. Those exh manifold fixings seem top notch and remind me a tad of the old brass nuts that used to hold exh manifolds to engines all be it on steel studs, though most times they did come undone without breaking the studs off..

While stainless steel studs into alloy has potential to create issues in time should the stud ever require to be removed, perhaps more so if stainless steel nuts are used on the studs, that it seems some sort of copper alloy might have been used for the nuts it may be likely that no such issue might be suffered in time if the exhaust requires to be removed, which seems ideal.

BTW my +8`s exhaust manifolds are held to the head by stainless set screws given Kevin used stainless wherever he could, I have tried them all to test if they might be seized to the alloy head. Fortunately they are not...

Yes George, the car in question was fitted with a Librands system which he had ceramic coated prior to delivery so it it does look very smart indeed.

As to thermal issues re the cover I wouldn't know as the owner opted for an Aston as due to Covid the MMC delays were greater than ever, but they began marketing them after they had fitted this first one and they are still advertising is the only logic I can refer to.
His +4 was the highest spec one I have ever seen or heard of btw
