I have been looking at the S&S Protune 2 manual recently, always handy to have a bit more understanding about how things work. I knew it mentioned about fault code diagnostics being accessible via the "Check Engine Lamp" and/or the speedometer and decided to give it a go. Well to save anyone the time, it doesn't work on the M3W. It looks like we still have to wire up the laptop to access and clear any fault codes.
Just for info, I was getting a P0122, "Throttle position sensor low/short circuit" every few hundred miles on my 40,000 mile 2013 M3W. I tried a bit of contact cleaner and compressed air around it and the voltage at idle was a reasonable 0.38v and seemed stable but it was a very intermittent fault, so not easy to reproduce with the laptop connected. In the end I ordered a replacement TPS from AliExpress for a reasonable £15 or so, including postage from China (thanks for the info Bunny) . It arrived about 10 days later and looks identical to the Magneti Marelli original PF4C/00 item, right down to all the identification markings, almost like that may be where Magneti Marrelli get them from ..... and then add another zero to the price. Since fitting the new TPS I have done a little over 2,000 miles with no EML light. You need a T17 Torx to remove the original "anti tamper" screws, suggest refitting the TPS with M4 x12mm Allen screws and setting the idle voltage at 0.4v then reset the adaptive maps. The idle throttle position should show about 10% and 100% at full throttle with that voltage, it may need a tweak to get the range.

You have to use the appropriate USB cable and plug it into the ECU. A damned hard wee little screw (easy to loose) to take off the access plate and then plug your laptop into it. I made a new access plate with a usb cable glued into the plate so I can leave it in place, it is water tight and no digging through the engine bay to get to the port.
The light at the end of the tunnel is actually a train. 2019 M3W

Thanks for the detailed info on changing the TPS....following Bunny's lead, we also sourced one from AliExpress but have not yet fitted it as the mis-firing has ceased (for now)

I didn't get any misfire, just a slightly lumpy idle with a small drop in idle rpm, closely followed with a EML light. This didn't happen often, with 400 or more miles between EML lights. It was the bother of resetting the fault codes and EML with the laptop that caused me to look into trying the fault codes via the speedometer, that doesn't work on our cars. I know some EML triggering faults will reset themselves over time but this didn't seem to be one of them. The new TPS seems to have fixed it.
As the TPS comes with the fixing screws blobbed with anti tamper sealant (easily cleaned off) I assume there is some potential to adjust the fuel mixture and change the emissions and performance via this, hence the anti tamper? Not being smart enough to exploit this and really just wanting to sort out the random EML, I just set it up to where it was before. There are several physically similar TPS to the PF4C/00 (Ducati use them) but these have a different Throttle Position/Voltage relationship seemingly, so although they may fit, they are probably not compatible with the ECU map profile.

I've just had a P0122 code which cleared itself after a few starts but I've ordered one from AliExpress as a spare.
Can you confirm it needs a T17 Torx as I'm struggling to find one of those.

I saw somewhere that it was T17, a weird size but maybe that is the anti tamper part? I think I actually used a more standard T15 or maybe T20 to get them out and then fitted the new TPS with the M4 Allen head screws. Did you manage to get a PF4C/00 as they have been a bit tricky to find recently?

Finding the PF$C/00 was quite tricky but I got there in the end. It was in the Lianjin Auto Store:

Having said that the PayPal payment has gone thorough but I've not had any acknowledgement of my order yet......

Chris-have a look at this site to help you reduce crazy long URLs: https://tinyurl.comfor example, I copied your link and turned it into: http://tinyurl.com/TPSensor
