My 2005 Roadster is up for MOT this month and needs a driverside track rod end (ball joint) to pass. I'm told they are on back order at Rutters (part STR 121) and at the factory (Morgan part no MSR 0670). It's rack + pinion steering and my garage (who are telling me what to write!) wondered whether there might be an equivalent Mini or Triumph Herald etc part

Jonah, it's deffo not a classic Mini one although they do fit a Ferrari Dino if you ever need to know smile

Your steering rack will the the Jack Knight one (sadly defunct) you may have to ring around some other parts suppliers like, Cain at Wolf, Techniques, Brands Hatch, I'm confident one of those will have stock

You could try Amsteer

https://www.amsteer.co.uk/

They provided a set of track rod ends for my Plus 4's for fraction of the price of the usual suspects.

Is it failing on wear or a split rubber boot?

Have checked but unfortunately Wolf Performance and BHM don't appear to stock them - may still be worth a call though. Rutter's don't show out of stock but as you say on back order. I can tell you that steering ball joints for your car MSR0650 are not handed but do both have a left hand female ½" UNF thread, a ¾ AF spanner fits lock nut perfectly. Good luck sourcing.

ETA: Sorry missed Arwyns post above.

Thanks both, appreciated. I'm told one of your suggestions (Jon) may have come up trumps.
Arwyn - I'm informed by 'higher intelligence' that the MOT fail is for play in the ball joint and that 'we' have rubbers in stock.

Sorry Richard , just noticed your reply. I thought I'd checked out BHM but my 'higher intelligence' is hopeful, having spotted something. I've passed on your tech point (think I followed!), hopefully also relevant to MSR0670...

Can you discern a part number on the rod end?

Jonah, I think they are off a mini metro. Make sure the thread is the same they don't cost much.

I'm very pleased to conclude with confirmation that BHM have come up trumps, I believe I snaffled their last OEM part (MSR 0670) but they do have a few pattern parts.
