After quite a high mileage the one of rivets holding the body to the chassis on the drivers side has worked loose. It's the last one that actually fixes the body to the base. I have carefully drilled the thing out but it would appear that the hole has worn slightly large - probably too much to take the same diameter blind rivet. Not sure if to start a new hole near and use a fresh same sized rivet or if to go with a larger diameter in the same hole. The factory went through a period of drilling through the outer body and into the base / chassis tube. The chassis tube is steel ad I worry about dragging steel into the Aluminium and causing a galvanic corrosion - which I know will be impossible to stop.

Has anyone else had this and have any suggestions for a good fix.

Corrosion is a problem with the lower skirt rivets, you see a lot of cars with filiform corrosion (like worms under the paint coat) around the rivet heads, my car included. The rivets near the rear exhaust mount tended to ping their heads off until I reinforced the mount bracket on my heavier G56 exhaust. I did fit some oversize rivets, coated with a bit of jointing compound on assembly and they seem to be OK. MMC used steel blind rivets originally, sometimes with a fibre washer under the head, they still corroded. I think the rivets are the least of our potential corrosion problems 😁.

I would use the same hole..larger rivet or same sized rivet with the correct ID washers mentioned below. .

Additionally, you can think of one or some of these> None of these will prevent the ultimate reaction, though they will retard it;

1. Insulation of the metals by using a plastic washer

2. Introduce a sacrificial metal, such as magnesium or zinc washers.

3. With the codicils above, consider using replaceable parts, nuts and bolts and expect to replace them regularly

4. In all cases, use your favorite spray like https://nylok.com/pre-applied-processes/nyshield/ They do have some effect.

This also applies to the Aero people body fittings and wherever the Factory pierced a galvanized chassis for any reason. Different strokes for different folks.

Suggest using corrosion inhibiting paste or primer wet when re-riveting and on all immediately associated components.

you may want to try smearing a little of this on the rivet surface Dave -

DURALEC

from memory, it is what Lotus used to use/recommend for use between steel/ally components (seems to have gone up in price a bit too...!)

The modern equivalent is TEF-GEL, Duralac can dry very hard on fasteners making them difficult to remove...
