BHM are fantastic and very efficient, It'll arrive shortly after you put the phone down! I used to live near BHM and spent many hours drueling in their showroom. Probably still clearing it up but I use them for parts/spares mail order now!

I'm very pleased to conclude with confirmation that BHM have come up trumps, I believe I snaffled their last OEM part (MSR 0670) but they do have a few pattern parts. Good to hear Jonah . Just for the record though the 2006-14 parts book lists MSR0650 as steering ball joint, but 2014 onwards lists MSR0670. Wouldn't have thought the part number change related to Jack Knight replacement with Quaife steering rack around 2006/7 since both appear to use the same threads. Any ideas or did one just replace the other due to different source maybe ![[Linked Image]](https://series2club.co.uk/2023_new_forum/Smileys/wittsends/nixweiss.gif)

(For Cooperman) - about £53 for the OEM part, didn't enquire about the price for the alternatives, partly on 'ship/ha'pence/tar' grounds but mostly just delighted to stay on the road - hopefully as the part is due to be fitted next Friday when I next visit my garage (in Grimsby). Btw I gather my garage did struggle to reach BHM by phone (emailed and BHM called back) - they have a new phone system and it has not been plain sailing...

Just for info…… Following Richard V6 comments I had a peak at my parts book collection.
“Parts BookTraditional Models 2006 Onwards, 2nd Edition” and Classic Parts Book2006 - 2014”…….both show rack MSR 0107 and TR End MSR 0650.
“Classic Parts Book Version 6.8 September 2018”……shows rack MSR 0107 and TR End MSR 0670. It also shows parts numbered MSR 0655 and MSR 0656 which seem to be a complete track rod c/w track rod end and eyed connector.
“Morgan Parts Book July 2004……seems to be for Jack Knight racks. Several rack references for different models. Shows part number MSR 0670 TR End (update June 2004). Also shows MSR 0655 (for 4/4 and +4 06/99 on) and MSR 0656 track rod complete assemblies.
Seems what goes around comes around!
All I want to know, for future reference, is the origin of a msr0650.

Thanks for research Geof confirming my findings. It seems as long as the current steering ball joint MSR0670 fits all models employing rack and pinion steering, Jack Knight or later Quaife, then we could maybe close the subject.
Just to repeat this employs a female ½" UNF left hand thread each side. The inboard ends with rose joint have a similar right hand thread allowing tracking to be adjusted in or out with locknuts loose, by twisting either steering rod (strictly speaking not a track rod) accordingly, typically equal amounts each side. It could also be used as a means of equalising any rubbing of wheel arches on full lock whilst adjusting tracking, with steering wheel orientation adjusted last.

Before it closes ... it seems bad planning to me to have the inner rose joints RH thread (rose joints in all qualities are readily available in LH thread for no extra cost) ... thereby lumbering the owner with sourcing more expensive LH outer joints.

Swings and roundabouts K. To provide tracking adjustment you need a left hand thread one end and right hand the other. At least with the Morgan setup, and whatever other vehicles the design was borrowed from, the steering rod is cheap to manufacture with rod ends simply requiring male threads cut directly. The Classic Mini system Jon refers to have male threads on ball joints requiring steering rod to have matching female likely via some sort of coupler or oversize tapped tube with split and clamp as on my Land Rover.
