Being an old-school Defender man I've never really engaged with the new one ... setting aside using something so expensive for my purposes, I must admit the chunky look with the steelies is growing on me.

Was the last pic in the Tore of Troup?

Yep Keith, Tore of Troup, we followed that track in about three miles, nobody’s been there in ages, no footprints other than critters and Deer. Should’ve worn wellies though, my waterproof boots didn’t live up to expectations. It’s a good time of year to go there all the same, before it’s all overgrown, easy to see where you’re stepping and no nasty insects!

There no doubt, these new landies have lost some of the charm of the original and I doubt this one will still be chugging around in twenty or thirty years time like the half dozen or so we saw in the immediate vicinity of Gamrie, at least three of which were two door open pickups which although my favourite, must be the most uncomfortable version of all😂

Great place ... during lockdown H and I spent a few days raking about in there ... paths all over and lots of interesting ruined things ... has a group of Red Deer living there too .... but, as you say probably best a winter walk.

As you say, the current crop won't have the longevity ... like most modern vehicles they'll die under the cost of keeping up with their failing complexities. Too many things on them that aren't Home-Mechanic friendly.

I can well imagine that the new Defender will still be very popular in 25 years' time as a vintage car....if LR doesn't change it every five years, but keeps it that way so that it can become an icon again. Your Defender in white with the steel rims is a beautiful car, Ewan.

If it's good enough for "The Girl On A Bike" .. More here. She is also on youtube.

She is a trailing girl, one tough cookie and an incredible example of overcoming overwhelming injuries and striding out into the unknown clapthumbs

Wow!

That repair team are brilliant. The car helped them but their attitude, energy, skills and shear hard work are something else.

Looks attractive but the price for a utility vehicle is simply ridiculous. When you can get a much more reliable Toyota Hilux for 28k why on earth pay 75k for a Defender van?
Is it fashion? Novelty?

It's all about style I think and if you can afford it why not, we pass this way once and a Hilux is not a memory I need having suffered many hours in one in RSA on dirt roads.

These new Defenders look like a Mars Bar, just right and good enough to eat like an F40 Fezza rofl
