Using ever thicker and/or longer wood screws
Unlike dealing with worn or cross-threaded metal fittings, using longer or thicker wood screws is unwise. After all, what keeps a wood screw snug is merely the pressure of thick metal threads into the wood. To use the same wood screw hole and original screw, merely squeeze (tap) a chip or toothpick of wood into the old hole and screw away with the same screw.

Leaking side screens.

Two fitting points are inherently unstable. (duh!) So we must accept leaking/wind entry with Morgan sidescreens. They will often lean or be pushed outboard at their tops, letting wind and rain in despite the draught excluders (a must). I merely hold or push my sidescreens inboard when tightening the knobs by hand and then with my tommy bar. Works a treat. You can even pull the sidescreens for tightening further inward the the draught excluders.
The best Morgan fixes are costlesss.

I've fitted some of the Librand side screen steadies - although their primary function is to keep the side screens nice and tight and prevent bowing, the added bonus is an inner knob/bar you can use to shut the door securely. Bit more pricey than a cheap door handles though!

I got the new rotors mounted on the hubs. Holding the bolt head was a pain, so I ground a bevel on one side of a spare socket, which made it a one person job.



Just need paint and I'll get everything put back together this week.

And all the bolt heads now line up beautifully! Makes my OCD very happy

Stub axles painted following fitting of newly reamed bushes and new hard chrome kingpins from Cain. Note his flanged kingpin bolts allowing far better contact area onto conical washers below.



Just awating collection of disc/hubs following new bearing outers being shrunk in - old bearings found to have slight signs of scoring and overheating. Also a pair of his trick aluminium brake caliper carriers.

Yes the Mini I'm afraid John. Did get one side of suspension re-fitted this morning though without tears, and now have the discs/hubs back so should be ready for a test run soon.

Those assemblies look well posh 👍 The rest of the steering components to follow suit ?

Thanks Chris Second side of suspension back on Morton and roughly adjusted yesterday following kingpin and wheel bearing replacement.



Another advantage of the SSL RS kit I've had for some time, is that a fair amount of tension can be I unwound out of main spring allowing hand removal and replacement without tears once rebound spring released. This despite being a little tedious having to wind back tension later. Helps with fitting the rebound spring gaiters as well.

Still waiting for paint to dry/harden on chunky brake mounts. Had hoped to use Cain's trick aluminium ones but it appears they are for 5 stud hubs only, which support discs c. 8mm further outboard. Don't ask how I know this

Just picked up my Morgan (2005 Roadster, V6 3.0L) from Matt at Life's Motors, Southport. New battery, tweak to the front SSL set up, plus electrical work including sorting out too many electrical components going through one 20A fuse and new footwell lights activated with door pressure switches. Loads of other bits done by Matt. Drives like a dream. Very happy.
