Significant weight reduction Jon. The OE ones appear to be gas cut from thick steel plate before machining. The centrelock wheel version require a greater inset from stub axle so probably use thicker plate still. The two are shown here with Cain's anodised and helicoiled aluminium (5 stud) version in foreground, with my OE now painted, steel centrelock version behind.

Cain's ones would fit your car Jon but not enough inset to match disc position on centrelock hubs which require a machined outer edge of 4mm to give clearance to disc inner as well as thicker flange to position caliper accordingly. Bottom line the 5 stub hubs place discs 8mm further outboard each side.

For this reason unfortunately the aluminium ones will be returned.

Yes and I'm guessing the weight saving would be greater still if Cain offered a centrelock version John.

I’ve just spent an hour treating the leather, using Auto Finesse Leather Conditioner.
Seems to work well; smells nice and leaves a nice (not too shiny finish).

Refitted the refurbed gearchange mechanism and actuating rods to the old F Super today, then decided to tweak the spring tension on the gearbox detents as they have a habit of jumping out of 2nd when thrashing up a hill

I'm replacing the front bumper tubes assemblies, since the ones that came on the car were repaired with badly done welds and have failed to keep the bumper attached.
I've got her up on jackstands with both front wheels off and reaching the top clamp bolts requires contortions I suspect may have been invented by Uday and Qusay.
I hope to get the new bumper tube assemblies bolted on this week so I can take measurements so I can order the correct length spacers and bumper bolts.
I don't know if there are any torque specifications. If I can't find any, I suppose I'll use red Loctite on the threads, tighten her down and keep my fingers crossed..
If anyone knows where I could find the torque values (if there are any) for a '58, I'd sure appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

At a rough guess I would suggest "quite tight" innocent

If you really want to use a torque wrench then consult generic torque setting for size and material of bolts used with particular attention to whether you have used protective grease on the threads or not.

Better to use locking nuts rather than loctite BTW.

Yesterday I took the Roadster out for its first run of the year. No salt around in the New Forest but still some damp roads, so 30 miles later I had the first-ever mud splatters in 3 years of ownership, which hurt my OCD. It took ages to clean, and when it's a bit warmer I will take the wheels off to clean them and underneath......
I found a small component by the driver's door when I was putting the car back in the garage, anyone recognise it ? One of those neat but annoying little items (that might have fallen off my wife's Corsa which is the daily drive).
