astonandy New to Talk Morgan A Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 15 Cheshire	Who knows what goes on in the Marketing offices at Car companies sometimes so I guess we'll have to wait and see. But, my interest in Morgan really began with the 4/4 Sport based on the dechromed looks and basic no-nonsense colour palette and the slightly more affordable price. Without it I wouldn't be interested in/couldn't afford to consider owning one. For me as a member of the Elise/Caterham generation (owned both) I know the dynamics of the Sports are not competitive but the aesthetics make up for it. Perhaps the Three wheeler is going to play part of Morgan entry point in future but only for those considerably smaller than me and who really want a "toy" to play with as a motorbike alternative. I guess we'll see if the creep up-market for Morgan will become a march as margins get squeezed and aren't made up for by extra demand for the Sports.

If you can afford a new car it must be more fun to spec it up anyway from the bespoke list. I wouldn't have a Sport, simply because the rear aesthetics are unappealing to me. The new Plus 8 would look far better with a spare. The rarest of the Sports must be the Roadster or Plus 4? - if you leave out the Plus 4SS. Production numbers (and colours) would be very interesting. In fact a weekly factory blog on completed cars would be fascinating, but it might be considered to be too commercially sensitive to make public in real time. Easter Talk Morgan Enthusiast Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,558 Likes: 5	The Sport was a cost effective way of ramping up production when demand was high, now demand has tailed off it makes sense to maximize the return on each car, which of course the bespoke models do. Second hand values of all trads will be enhanced by cutting output. The +4 Sports was probably the least popular, it was the last Sport to the market and +4 buyers are probably the most conservative of trad buyers, more likely to choose the bespoke route. The other factor is dealer allocation, as I understand it the dealers forecast how many cars the want for the year ahead and then are contracted to receive that allocation throughout the year, cars not ordered for an individual customer are specced by the dealer for showroom stock. It makes little sense putting a Sport into stock because you have no edge over a rival dealer and any buyer will phone round and round for the best deal.

I assume if you go down the bespoke route and want a stripped down 4/4, the black painted wheels, traditional hood and no overriders would be available and the spare wheel well covered with that sexy louvred cover......perhaps! Jays Former Morgan owner. Gone but hopefully not forgotten!

I also prefer the look of the tail without a spare wheel. The Sport provided me with a (relatively) economical way into a new Morgan (I hesitate to say cheap as I paid �43500 for it, or about �39000 at the time). On the other hand, I do understand that as demand has slowed down for all but the 3 wheeler it may well make sense for MMC to maximise the amount they can make per unit by forcing customers to buy a bespoke one. However, if the end result is that a buyer who would have bought a Sport ends up buying a secondhand one (or indeed a caterham which was the other car I was considering) then it might not prove to be such a brilliant plan after all. Giles. Mogless in Paris.

For us mortals a good thing to remind ourselves of maybe is that it is a romance of an uncomplicated variety and as such will generally cost you money but sans legal fees. If the sports are to be discontinued I think it could be a good thing IMHO for present owners as the "pure silhoutte" which is the brand identifier of the marquee without all the bolt on bits will have been of a limited run. This purity of form, the stripped down look that I believe attracted some of us into ownership will continue with that appeal for a minority, remember I sold a +8 with all the bells and whistles on as after 4 years great fun I spotted which to me captured the essence of what HFS Morgan was all about IMO and after nearly 3yrs ownership and 17,000 miles have not wavered once on the decision to change. If you like a car or not (for asthetical reasons), it�s a very personal/subjective thing. And OK, MORGAN�s are interesting cars, rather nice looking, always been something special. I choose my (mostly classic) cars more or less only by asthetical aspects. So the "usual" MORGAN is OK (...) for me but not absolutely hot... Why? There were always some (little but important) details disturbing me. A very personal thing, of course, sorry guys, but: - marker lights on the front wings = too kittenish - spare wheel = ruins the pure look of the back (sorry again, I know, a lot of you like the spare wheel) - tyres with a too flat sidewall = too modern, not in harmony with the classic body design - too large body dimensions of the +8, Roadster and even the +4 (the famous (too large) distance between the headlights and the wings => frogeye-effect) - leather belt on the bonnet = pseudo-classic feature - etc... BUT with the launch of the 4/4 Sport nearly everything was perfect - love at first sight: - Narrow body = what a harmony! - No spare wheel = PERFECT tail-look - No bumpers (who really needs them?) - Black painted wire wheels with "balloon" tyres - Reduced chrome decoration - Less is more! Simply a perfect, timeless, "voluptuous" toy! The result for me was a complete regroupment of my "car pool". I sold three cars (Sunbeam Alpine Series II, Triumph TR6, Citroen 2CV) in nearly perfect condition to get the budget for a 4/4 Sport (and the nearly endless list of optical and technical improvements). Since august 2011 I�m the happy owner of my all black beauty. Never would want another one. Very happy that MMC launched that model.
