Thanks Heinz. That one is a second post to my original, but shows the flap, that I had to change the "seal" on. I used BBQ gasket.

So carrying on with the heater flap part of this post you can now see 3 images which illustrate that there are 2 flaps at play in the heater box. The front one we are all aware of and the need to ensure it closes off fully to avoid a continual hot air flow into the passenger compartment.

However, if you look at the top image you will see where the Bowden cable is operating the front flap but you will also see a linkage going down to another flap lever which is shown in the 2nd photo.

That second flap lever operates another flap behind the heater matrix but although I can just feel it moving if I squeeze my hand in to the back of the box, I cannot see what is happening.

If you look at the 3rd photo. you can see the front flap in the open position and you can see that the relative position of the lower flap lever has also changed.

So. there is something more going on in that heater box at the back that I don't understand but the second flap must be controlling something.

Hence my earlier request to see if anyone has a schematic or GA drawing of the assembly.

Does anyone know what the second rear flap does????

Since turning the heater knob alters the mix of air I think it is fair to assume that one flap controls the passage of "cold" air and the other the passage of hot air that has passed over the heater element.
As the visible flap controlling hot air flow is opened the other flap must be closing in such a way that a portion of the air entering the system passes over the heater element. When the heater flap is fully open the other flap should be fully closed in such a way that all the air passes over the heater element.

I put the "cold" in inverted commas because, as Mark has clearly shown, the air entering the system is above the ambiental temperature.
